Yes there is vertex lighting used. As far as I know E-S's blender importer for GEOBJs is the only way to keep lighting for blender

Have you tried [url=http://www.jabosoft.com/downloads/502]Jabo's DInput plugin? It's not as advance as N-Rage but it may work enough for your case
