|

Ok, I have a spare comp, with win98se so I have no problem with the official uitlities. But others do not have win98se!
The problem is that the Utilities are THE ONLY WAY OF UPGRADING/FLASHING a GS/AR PRO.
Can Wreck or someone please modify them to work in WIN XP just like the GSSC program.
Thanks |

Wreck simply replaced the special config files with older versions and that seemed to work with XP. I checked into the Official Gameshark Utilities (Actually modified ones, it was hard to find a place that still hosted them) and found the zip is packaged with older versions of the msvcrt err something or other DLLs. Most likely, if Windows uses those DLLS instead of the higher versions, it will work just fine (I can think of no other reason they threw those DLLs in there, Windows uses them) . I was planning on writing up a batch file to make it easy, problem is you cant replace them while the OS is in use. Ironically, with 98 its easy to boot up in MS-DOS and replace files, XP its not. Im gonna check into this more, backup and replace my files, see if it doesn't crash, although I cant actually test it, the app keeps crashing on me on one of the tabs, and it doesn't an 98. If I can get it to not crash, I'll try to write up some kind of startup batch file. I re-hosted the Utilities I found at http://kcghost.googlepages.com/Game_Shark_Software.zip
I'll post back here if I can get it to work and have made a batch file. |

Nope, not gonna work, lol. If XP would have taken the files, im almost sure it would have worked. However, once I replaced all the files in safe mode, XP wouldn't boot, it wouldn't even boot Safe Mode again, I had to use the XP disc and the recovery console to put back in the backups.
Not quite sure now how we can get this to work on XP. |

Oh, no... Now people are starting to think that I'm a real hacker.
As KC said, it was as simple as replacing the configuration files with the older ones. We should all be thankful it is was as easy as that. I'm hoping that it works for everybody. |

Maybe someone could obtain the source of the GSSCC program and add the flash/upgrade functionality into them?
I dont think anyone on these boards has the skill to do this: Correct me if I'm wrong!

You can't get the source.
There is a generic upload code written by HCS at http://sourceforge.net/projects/n64dev
However, uploading GS rom (or downloading normal rom) isn't possible with it at the moment. It might be as simple as sending PIFram the size of the rom, destination, and the port access address. No clue really.
It does work on any win platform however. The DLL it uses basically acts like a driver, since everything 2000 and up limits direct port access. _________________ (\_/) Beware

says there is no file package complete yet. you wouldnt be able to perhaps post the download on a site if you already have it, would you?
oh yes, i have an excellent idea for this parallel port crap. why not modify the cord so that it connects to a usb jack? find someone else to write a program and a driver... it would be perfect! is it possible though? i do not have the capabilities to do said thing... _________________ zerojett lives on! |

if you go to teh bottom of the page you'll see a cute little link to look through their directories. The Uploader was part of the neon64 emulator. If you have Mario64 and a GS, you can actually emulate NES games on it. Scary, huh?
Incidentally, I can't even get to my site until yahoo cancels my account. Although that seems a bit ridiculous, so's the situation. _________________ (\_/) Beware
