I think I have seen those ceiling lights before, are they sprites? Is there still something remaining of those in GE? |

Image still exists if you look thru image editor. I think another level still has a leftover one of this but it escapes me which. |

Depot has a green ceiling light in the building near the train. |

Depot's light is actually different though, it's rounder than the ones that were used in Archives. Both of those light graphics, and the one from Silo, are right next to each other if you look through the image editor. The interesting thing is that Depot's light should have a beam of light coming out of it, it's there if you look at it in the editor, but it isn't actually displayed in-game. |

I remember seeing that light in I think silo footage, and it was pretty nifty. I just think performance issues made them disappear. |

yep, must be that
I wish that GE would have used the 8mb memory...
it would have run so smoothly with it...

No, it would not.
The main reason pc's can run faster when you add ram is because that allows for having more stuff preloaded, more disk cache, less memory swapping, and other stuff, all of which are not used at all in the N64.
The expansion pak doesn't make the console faster (although it could allow for triple buffering instead of the normal double, which does help smooth motion, but not speed it up, but these could use up to 900kbyte each so they are expensive and other uses are probably more rentable). The advantages are of a very different nature. More textures, more complex IA, bigger levels, more everything, but NOT faster.
Speed improvements are only to do with programming optimizations, and they have nothing to do with the available memory. In fact, optimizing code basically consists in writting simpler code to reduce the amount of computations the CPU has to do to get the desired results, which normally results in shorter code and also means it's smaller. |
