Just curious - has anybody yet figured out a way to export a room from GE to a format readable and editable from the Hammer editor? Basically the exact reverse process of moving a room from hammer to GE.

I know you need to export the the level to. obj per Billy Glenn original post. You prob. can make a WAD from all the GE textures, but everything else I'm not sure.

Crafty can open a .obj file and has an export option to go to .map which is readable by hammer, but whenever I try to export to a .map file its completely empty (both in hammer and when opened by crafty). Any idea why this method would not work?

Yeah, I get the same result. My guess is Crafty can only convert .bsp to .map, but I haven't tested that. I know there are model editors that can convert to .map format, BillyGlenn had some luck with Milkshape but I don't remember if he ever got textures working or just geometry.

I would actually settle for just geometry. Doing textures by hand couldn't possibly be all that much work, at least on simple rooms. Provided I don't have to create a new wad.

Basically I have a few tweaks I have that I want to do to a few of the runway roof rooms, rooms which have very little geometry/textures associated with them as it is. I could re-create them from scratch, but if I could get the geometry imported to hammer with little hassle that would be great.

I thought Billy Glenn did have the textures included, just the u,v coords were off.

Reading through the old thread, I was having a problem with MilkShape crashing every time I tried to export to .map. I just installed the program on this computer, and I'm having that same issue. I can't even figure out how to move my view in this editor, I can rotate but not move, and the html help file doesn't seem to have a section for controls.

I'm not having any luck at all with milkshape - it crashes when I try to export to .map. Plus its only a trial version.

I just emailed the guy who created Crafty - looks like he still actively updates crafty (just released beta version 17), hopefully he'll be able to get .obj to .map working. There's no reason it shouldn't work. You can export .obj to .obj, and any other format to .vmf or .map, just not .obj to .map or .obj to .vmf. Hopefully its a bug that can be fixed because that would make a very easy method for converting ge rooms to hammer.
