While going over the current list of object and character names for an Editor update, I wanted to get a good look at all the ammunition props. I plopped them all down in an empty Runway, took this screenshot, and labelled everything accordingly...

As you can see, all three boxes of ammo look exactly the same. Even though only one is supposed to be for shotgun cartridges, the other two also contain them. I'm guessing this is the same model, re-used for both the Golden Gun bullets and Magnum rounds.

The gun magazines are a little more interesting, however. The PP7, DD44 and ZMG all share the same model. Well, atleast they look identical and all are the same file size. The rest are each unique. If you compare them to their weapon model, you'll see that they were likely stripped out and made separate later on...

All of them match up perfectly. It's harder to tell with the RC-P90, as it isn't displaying properly in the Editor. If you look at the weapon in-game, be it on the floor in multi or in your watch inventory during a mission, you'll get a better image of it. There is a difference between each, though. The prop model you see on the ground has vertical lines along the magazine, whereas the model that shows up in your watch has horizontal ones. Not a huge difference, but it does stand out if you're looking for it.

Anyways, just thought I'd share these pictures with you, as I thought it was actually quite interesting to see that they did make individual magazines for most weapons, even if they weren't used.

heh, nice pictures. Thanks Wreck!

I remember to read on a interview in zoonami's site, I think, that, when they started developing the n64 version (after the SNES version was dropped), even before they decided the general "shape" of the game, the team's graphic designers were alreday making maps, character models, objects, effects, etc without knowing how they were going to use them, if at all.
So what they did was to model anything that crossed their minds, creating a really rich pool of props.
Needless to say (as you know better than me), there are many that were ultimatelly not used. Many made it into the rom evein if unused, but probably a few/lot of them did not.

I bet that, at some point in the final stages of mission setup, they even forgot about a good share of them, like the rcp-90 magazine.

Wow, the developers really put a lot of thought into their prop designs... I'm impressed. Surprised

By the way, is there an ammo prop for grenade rounds in the codes somewhere? I mean besides the big wooden boxes they're always found in. Just wondering.

Yeah, it's a good thing you brought that up, actually...

The rocket shells can be seen on (and collected from) a table in Depot, but the grenade rounds are never featured. Anytime you procure rounds for your G.L., they're in an ammo crate. Both models, however, are the projectiles fired from the actual weapons.

Thanks for posting that image of the real FN-P90 ammo magazine, radorn. It's always cool to see how seriously the Rare designers took their jobs while creating the props.

tracer rounds at 4:20 and something familiar at 4:33 (I thought that was not really possible, but seems like it is).

Man, that thing seems even more deadly in real life. I've seen it a lot on the television series, "Stargate: Atlantis", but not in actual military footage. Those tracer rounds in broad daylight are really neat. That one guy must've been using the 2x RC-P90 cheat. Razz

http://www.zoonami.com/briefing/2004-09-02.php

just wanted to link the "interview" (which is not such, after all) I mentioned earlier. the part I refered to is in the middle of the page, starting at "So in the first year when we were without any development systems,[...]", but I recommend reading the whole.
