As most of you know, the editor can only handle english script. To somewhat get around this, now there's two tools that convert GoldenEye's binary text into UTF-8 text files and back again. There's also a third, generic one that reduces text binaries to the utmost minimum size.
Like everything, there's a limitation. The limitation in this case is that we haven't figured out the correspondance between most of the kanji and the binary values. At the moment it uses a special hex-code placeholder for these, but the great part is that you--yes, you--can fix this!
There are two files called "japanese.txt" and "japaneselarge.txt" which is used to read and write the text you feed it. If somebody with way too much time on their hands fills in the rest of the table, then you'll have perfect japanese spit out. Until then, suffer with those blasted hex code values.
Incidentally, if you +did+ happen to replace the japanese font table, you could make your own language files to easily type up text ;*)
As for the text reducer, it eliminates trailing NULLs used for word-alignment and combines duplicated text when possible. In other words, "THROWING KNIVES" and "KNIVES" would be combined.

EDIT:
Probably should mention all these text tools work on every region language binary. It doesn't need to be japanese, but it accepts it. _________________ (\_/) Beware

If you post your Japanese table and an image of the entire kanji font over at Romhacking.net's translation board you might just find someone crazy enough to fill it in for you. |

Update to the text tools. Bugfixed the economizer so it actually works right every single time. Also did a minor update to the japanese reference tables.
Hear that? You can now economize any language text file without issue! Smaller data--same data. _________________ (\_/) Beware
