Confusing. What's in the place of the Silo?

Well, the Caves mission is in the works, but a Library one won't be for some time yet.
The Casino de Monte Carlo is another story.

Here is how it goes down

It began with Stack and Caves as the orginal two secret levels
now aztec and Egyptian.

Stack as a really hard level which took the place of aztec, then comes the rugged, how much wood could a wood chuck chucking Laughing , level, I really
hate that level. Caves Took egyptians place

Casino, was a beta level that took the place of Silo in the really relly really eraly stages of Goldeneye007. It was later deleted and replaced by Silo. Which went through major changes.

There is a rumor going around saying that stack stayed untill sometime
in late devolpment becuase Aztec didn't have much change to it.The rumor also says that caves was deleted becuase rare thought it would be too hard.

The mission select pictures of the two levels are still in the RAM. But all of the objects and objectives are long since lost in the mess of the goldeneye rom.

I don't believe for a second that the Caves was ever intended to be a mission. Rare took a portion of the Jungle and created a new multiplayer map out of it. Both the Temple and Complex are directly influenced by Egypt and Aztec. Library may have at one point been a mission. However, in my opinion, it was just a big level based on the Archives. Sure, the basement doesn't look much like it, but it does resemble certain areas from Facility, or the guard shelter in the Runway. Basement and Stack didn't come about until late in the game. Once they decided that neither the Statue of Cradle were good enough to be left into the final version, they simply split up the Library into two more maps as a replacement. The Casino de Monte Carlo was probably under development in the very beginning, but was taken out for one reason or another. Surely one stealth mission where you talk to people instead of killing them wouldn't have hurt.

By the way, the GoldenEye ROM isn't very messy, actually.
If there were setup files in there, they would have been found by now.

I'd have to see this confession to be certain. If anybody knows where this article is, please send me a link to it. Any information regarding these stages may very well be beneficial to my future projects. Smile

The Library would be a great mission stage. It's large, has many routes, and contains multiple secret passages. I've been trying to think up ideas for it these last few days. I'd like to try something totally different from what's been done in other levels, but keep it true to the originals. What that means is splitting the objectives down the middle. Some that have been used before, others that are completely new. Of course, the methods may be the same, but the outcome totally different. I'll post more about it soon.

From Detstar http://goldeneye.detstar.com/rumors/rumors.asp: "I heard that the beta version, the two of them were in the extra levels the Stack and the Caves, before they were replaced by Aztec and Egyptian. Rare has actually stated some truth to this, but they weren't specific. They did state that the two levels were mission, but not at the same time, that order, or something along those lines. The Caves is actually just a mirrored, twisted version of the Jungle. The Stack and Caves were changed to Aztec and Citadel, then Citadel was changed to Egyptian as we know it now."

He mentions Caves at one point being a real level. It would be much more useful to have the actual statement from Rare that said this, so im gonna look into it abit tommorow. However, that really doesn't make any sense at all, why would they make a solo mission based off Jungle? It sounds much more like the well-known concept that they sorta rushed the Multi stages, and just stole a section of Jungle for a quickie Multi map. Culda been reversed however... Whatev, Ill see if I can find Rares statements tommorow.

It turns out Deterest confused it. At no point did Rare say Caves was ever an actual solo level. In fact, Rare dismissed it:
Q: Were the Caves and Stacks multiplayer levels once included in single player mode?
A: No. And yes. But not in that order. The stacks/library/basement levels were added due to the single player library being fun but too slow. The caves section is a cunningly reworked slice of the Jungle level, with a couple of loops put in. And a mind-scrambling texture pasted on.

Library, as we have assumed, was a single player at one point, but slow (likeley because many objects need to be stuffed in, and many can be seen from one viewpoint., in my opinion.) Im gonna continue to check out Rares site, this is cool, lol.

Nice findings, KC. Smile
It's always good to read some actual statements from Rare about the game. They did seem to admit that the Library had been a mission stage at some point during development. Caves had to have been designed with multiplayer in mind. Why would they create a mission that mimicks the Jungle?
Why am I? Because I want to. Razz
