This is a simple patch which corrects a mistake in the Carrington Institute training setup file. You were originally supposed to be able to press the B button while looking at one of the guns from GoldenEye 007 in the firing range display cases to have its name displayed in the bottom left corner of the screen. This feature, while correctly implemented, never functioned because the guns lack the bitflag which allows them to be activated.

The guns, with the exception of the PP7, all use short variations of their real world names, rather than the names they were given in PD. This is odd, considering these strings are relatively new; they are not present in the text file from the 4.4 beta version of the game. If this feature actually made it in, they would use the same names as they do elsewhere in PD. This archive contains a patch to make the guns use their correct PD names.

Very nice work, DB.
It's interesting to see that, like in GoldenEye, Beta elements are being discovered and made a reality in PD.

Those hint messages about activating various objects around the CI have action blocks in the NSTC setup files as well. They check if an EEPROM value has been set, and end if so. My guess is this value is mistakening set from the beginning, so the messages never get shown.

Another interesting thing: All of the GE guns in the firing range are actually laptop gun pickups.

So real names like AK47 or Skorpion?
Why Walther PPK is still PP7?
Confused

I have no idea, you'd have to ask whoever wrote the text file (and I doubt they'd remember after this many years). If I had to guess, these seem to have been taken from GE's inventory strings (which use shorter names than elsewhere); back when they were still using the real names, the PPK had its full name (walther ppk) even in the inventory. Maybe that "walther" raised a red flag since it's a brand name, and they changed that but left the others alone? I don't know, it doesn't seem likely, but it's my only guess. Even if these were from the GE inventory, they still edited them since they would have been entirely lowercase in GE. You would think that they'd just use the final GE names if the PD names weren't ready; they were using them elsewhere in the 4.4 beta.

This patch has been updated to version 1.0. The drone guns are now retained in the setup, and a patch is provided to use the PD gun names. Rather than editing the CI Training text file, I simply had them use the strings from LgunE, which is always loaded.

SubDrag, you can add this to the Vault now if you wish. This should be the final version.

Though it's such a simple thing (activate the weapon to display name), it's actually pretty cool. I like little details like that in a game. Strange that they didn't have it working in the final release.

By the way, do we know if this feature still exists (in any shape or form) in the PAL and JAP versions of the game? It might be worth a look, just to see if there were any changes.

They never got them working in any version, unlike the hint text. I can't say whether the action blocks or text for them still exist in the other versions, I'd need to see the setups and text files to find out.
