Ok, so I used to play Goldeneye on Nintendo 64 when I was a kid, but I haven't played for several years. Then I found an old Nintendo 64 and an old copy of Goldeneye! yaaay!!

Ok, so here's the problem. I'm apparently too stupid to enter the cheat codes. I have two controllers, and I've tried them both, but for whatever reason I can't get any of the cheat codes to work. (Also, I've seen some people suggest using the "z" button, and I don't know what the hell that is. Neither of my controllers has a "z" button.)

Any idea what the problem is? I have two controllers that look just like this:



Any specific instructions on how to enter cheat codes would be greatly appreciated. And please remember, you're talking to someone who is clearly significantly retarded, so I'm going to need more detail than the average gamer.

It only works on the current level (ie if you're on Dam, you can only use the Facility unlock code), etc. Also do it in single player menu.

All of the missions are currently unlocked except for Aztec.

Obviously, I'm unable to unlock the Aztec level, and I would love to do that. But I'm also unable to access the cheats, like Tiny Bond, Invincibility, Turbo, Silver PP7, Invisible Bond, Maximum Ammunition, All Weapons, etc.

There are sites all over the internet that list the cheats like this:

But when I enter the code nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong? I think I'm in the correct screen, and I think I'm pushing the correct buttons, but I'm not 100% positive.

The "cheat" screen refers to the screen entitled "Cheat Options", right? You go to the opening screen and then SELECT FILE >> 3. CHEAT OPTIONS, right? Then you enter the code above? Then you click on the tab on the lower left labeled "PREVIOUS" to exit, and then click on 3. CHEAT OPTIONS and go right back in, right?

Well, nothing happens for me. I'm not getting any sound that indicates that I've entered the code correctly, and I'm not getting the cheat to open up. I also can't get the Aztec level to open up for me.

I'm assuming that in the instructions above "L" refers to the button on the front of the controller where the index finger naturally goes that is labeled "L", and that "R" is the mirror image button on the other side. I'm also assuming that "Left" and "right" and "Down" and "Up" refer to the gray cross on the left hand side with arrows on it, and each of those refers to the corresponding arrow. I'm assuming that "C-Right" etc., refer to the yellow buttons on the other side.

What else am I missing. I've tried it a couple dozen times, and NOTHING. I'm very frustrated. Any detailed explanations would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any versions of the game where there are no cheat codes that can be entered by hand?

As far as I know, this is the most recent, up-to-date list of all button codes in GoldenEye. I put it together a few months back and tested most, if not all, and they appeared to work. Just follow the instructions provided and hopefully all works out...

Also, the "Z" button is the trigger on the back of the middle grip. It's the button used to fire weapons in the game.

Thanks for the response. I do appreciate it, but none of them seem to work for me.

Any hints on HOW to enter the codes? I've read lots and lots of codes, but I'm apparently not entering them correctly. Is there some special way you have to push the buttons? Does the + sign mean to push them at the same time? First one then the other? How long do you have to hold them down? Do they have to be released at the same time?

Please, any detailed description of HOW TO ENTER THE CODES would be greatly appreciated.

I can't remember if the cheats turn on the cheat in-game, or open menu option. I thought they just turned them on while in a level, but it's been a while.

Ok, so I tried to enter your cheat codes at the CHEAT OPTIONS menu, and I got no response at all. No confirmation beep. I leave CHEAT OPTIONS and then return, and nothing.

I've tried several other cheat codes on several different screens, some in-game, some to open the Aztec level, some at the CHEAT OPTIONS screen. Nada.

Thanks for the suggestion to look on youtube!! I think I can actually win the levels and get the cheats that way. I'm going to try.

If someone could make a youtube video demonstrating how to enter the codes, that would be really nice, too. A nice, slow, step-by-step explanation and demonstration would be sweet.

Here, let's try to get this cheat option unlocked...
*notes: release all buttons after each step in the sequence. if you take too long to enter the entire sequence, the code will likely not take. make sure you're pressing the right buttons. hold the proper shoulder button(s) and press the next button while still keeping them held.

Invincible
This unlocks the Invincible cheat.
(enter in cheat options menu)

Sequence...

Hold the R shoulder button, then press Left on the D-Pad

Hold the L shoulder button, then press Down on the D-Pad

Press Left on the D-Pad

Press Up on the D-Pad

Press Down on the D-Pad

Hold the R shoulder button, then press the Left C Button

Hold the L shoulder button, then press the Left C Button

Hold both the L and R shoulder buttons, then press Left on the D-Pad

Hold both the L and R shoulder buttons, then press Right on the D-Pad

Hold the L shoulder button, then press the Left C Button

Button codes are finnicky. One time I entered one on my first try and it took me a good fifteen minutes and a lot of frustration later to get the next one to work. All i can say is just keep trying. You could also make sure all of the buttons are working by testing each of them in game, just to make sure you're not trying to enter codes with a controller with broken buttons.

I never had problems with the level or cheat unlock codes, but the ones you enter in-game were always a pain for me to get working. I think those are more time-sensitive or something.
