There appears to be some small issues with weapon names in the main watch menu (the first screen that appears when you open the watch). Some are still in English, while others are broken up strangely. It might be a bit tricky to fix those, since some lines of text are shared between different items.

The 21990 editor lets you change which strings get used for each weapon, so that isn't really a big deal.

I don't know how to use the 21990 GE Modifications menu to inject the texts. I looked for some tutorials in the vault but couldn't find anything that helped.

I changed in the preferences the 'Program directory' to where I store my *.bin files. and then I can see the translated words in the 'text' boxes.
Then I press on 'Delete debug Data (and J text) and create a new rom with 'Write rom with 21990 Mods'. After that, I load that rom on Project 64 and nothing is translated.

I'm sure I'm doing it wrong.

First you must convert the rom.

Its in one of the tabs up the top (File, edit...)

After you have selected all text files using CTRL + Click, save the rom.

Load the rom up in 21990, delete J text and save it.

Still not working... Sad

I've revised all the .bin files and I don't think I can save more space. In the process, somethings happened -> I had the same problem with the LgunE.bin (Silo crashed after applaying it) while I was translating the missing weapons, but know is back to normal after deleting unused text. Also, the game crashed for no reason when the "This door is locked." text should appear on the screen (already fixed reediting an old .bin file).

So I was back to the begining but with all text optimiced and super-reviewed. Then I tried what Spyster says in his last post and didn't work. Just to be sure I've done it well this time, I'm gonna describe it step by step:
1- In Goldeneye setup editor. Tools -> convert ROM
2- Change -> select the directory with mi edited .bin files
3- Select all the .bin files -> Write above files in Main Folder to ROM
4- Select an original NTSC non swapped rom (Goldeneye (U).z64) -> Open
5- Name the new rom -> *.rom
6- In Goldeneye setup editor. Tools -> preferences
7- Quick Convert (F5) ROM: -> choose the new rom from step 5 *.rom
8- In Goldeneye setup editor. Tools -> 21990 (GE) / 39850 (PD) Modification
9 - Click on 'Delete Debug Data (and J text) -> A box appears: "Saved some space - Unneeded debug data in 21990 deleted" -> Accept
10- Click on 'Write ROM with 21990 Mods' -> overwrite *.rom or create a new one.

I tried with my roms and others I downloaded after and still not working.
If I did it right, here are the new .bin files so someone else could try it and say if it should work.

Hi sogun, i've just received your email.

You can find the evolution of my work here :
http://www.shootersforever.com/forums_message_boards/viewtopic.php?t=3662

Concerning The 21990 editor, it's a super editor that will allows you to do many things

as Dragonsbrethren said :
Quote:
What you need to do is inject your larger text files through the 21990 editor. Tools > 21990 Modification > Stage Options. Click the Delete Debug Data (and J text) button at the bottom of the window (this will free up a ton of space), then use the pulldown menu above it to select the text files you want to replace, and use the Inject File and Upd Tables button to inject your modified versions of those files. Now you should be able to write as much as you need, and still have all of the files fit in the ROM.

I didn't have problems with LoptionsE.bin, but with the LgunE.bin.

And yes, for the original texts : "picked up some XXXX", when you want to translate in your langage, the space doesn't appears, so you have to bypass.

And to conclude, i haven't seen any special characteres like accents, you can add them, just follow this thread here : http://www.shootersforever.com/forums_message_boards/viewtopic.php?t=2964

However, some special characteres don't work, like @ which appeared disformed. Perhaps, with the new version of the editor, it's working now.

Good job anyway. Wink

Instead of using convert ROM, just use 21990 for all your text imports. Delete debug data in there first, then import each text one by one. I imagine that will fix your problem. Write ROM when you're done, and if you wanto change it, make sure you load that same ROM before making changes, instead of using default one 21990 loads.

Yeah! It's working.
--------------------------

Thank you very much corrigo21. I'll take a deeper look to those topics. I'm specially interested in characters because I thought it couldn't be done (Although I need "á", "é", "í", "ó", "ú", "ñ", "¡" and "¿"). That will make a perfect translation.

Also, I saw in your translation that you edited some images like "Select file", "For your eyes only" and "Classified". It's all in the first topic? Was it difficult to change?

And one last question. The .bin with the credits seems to be cut, but your translation had it somehow solved. Do you remember how to do that? I'd like to add all the original developers and some extra.

Once again, thak you very much.

EDIT: Unfortunately, the rom doesn't run on Wii64. Any ideas?

No, it's not so hard to change those images. i just used paint to do this.
tools>image tools
Choose your picture you want to "translate"
right click>save bitmap

modify the image, then, back to the GSE
tools>image tools>right click>replace image

Concerning the credits, i just tried to open the LlenE.bin, on an unmodified rom, it doesn't seem to be cut. All the credits are there.

Yeah, your translation won't work on wii64.

It didn't work on surreal on xbox either.
Actually, it's working only on pc emulator like project 64, 1964 ou mupen 64.

Sogun, I'll try to walk you through the process of using the 21990 Modifications menu for GoldenEye...

1. Start up the Editor, and make sure you are in GoldenEye mode.
2. Under 'Tools', select the "21990 (GE) / 39850 (PD) Modification" option.
3. At the top, there is a "Choose ROM" button. Click it.
4. Select the ROM in which you want to add your new text files.
5. Click on the "Delete Debug Data (and J text)" button at the bottom.
6. There is a tab labeled "Stage Options", click it to change the menu.
7. On the lower left, there is a selection box marked "Files".
8. Click on that box, and scroll down to a text file you wish to replace.
9. After you have chosen one, let's say LarchE (Archives), data about it will appear.
10. To the right, there is a button labeled "Inject File and Upd Tables". Click it.
11. You will be asked to select your replacement text file. It will replace the original.
12. Select the next text file, and keep repeating until all have been replaced.
13. Once finished, click the "Write ROM with 21990 Mods" button.
14. Save it as a new ROM with whatever name you assign to it.

That should be it. When you want to alter that ROM, make sure to choose that ROM at the top of the menu. If you make any edits to the textures or fonts, be sure to keep using the same ROM.

As far as the LlenE credits file goes, there are some unused names in there. For some reason, they were left out of the final credit roll. The "James Bond Will Return" line does still show.

Thank yoy Wreck and Corrigo. Now I'm getting used to it.

Here are some progress pics.
I had to use Corrigo's LlenE.bin from his French translation because it was the most complete I could extract. I tried to fit every developer in the credits, but as you can see the final part is very messy. I've tried diferent ways to put de names but that's the best I could get.

Now to add spanish characters into the texts. I don't have time right now, maybe tomorrow. That's the final step and then we'll have a 100% Spanish translation Very Happy

Good news everyone! I have all the special characters that i'll need injected in the rom.

There were two problems in the process.
The first one was to find correct spots to insert the 8 new characters, because some of the spots (like @,#,% and +) twisted the images in a extrange way, just as Corrigo stated before.
The second pain in the ass was to adjust the height of the characters, because some of them were way too down, or too up. I had to fix it pixel per pixel.

Here's proob that evering ended well. I see the 'ñ' a little up, but if edit the image it goes far more down.
http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z345/Sogunesp/GES21-1.jpg?t=1292720964

Tomorrow I'll start reviewing and adapting the text. It'll take some days until I finish it, but my next reply will probably have the patch in it.

It's the least I could do. Thanks for the help once again.

I don't think it'll really stand out. Have you tried adjusting the values for the font character in the 21990 Modifications menu? There is a "Vertical Offset" and an "Unknown". Not sure if you've tried changing those at all, but it could give you that small amount of space you need.

Hello Wreck

I didn't use de "vertical offset" but the results are very similar than editing the image. It doesn't matter anymore since it looks good ingame.
http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z345/Sogunesp/GES23.jpg?t=1292783848

On a sidenote, now that I have to review every text in the game I said to myself to do the most accurate translation, going deeper in details. So I'm going to watch de spanish Goldeneye film again and search for those phrases that appear in the game.
Also, I remembered that the spanish Nintendo Club published a booklet called "Guia de Misiones" (Mission guide) which if I remember correctly, had all the texts of the game translated. I don't own one and never found it, so I'm not really sure if it was a strategy guide or a physical translation.

The question is: would it be legal to use that translation? It will be more accurate and 'official' since it came directly from Nintendo Spain.
It's not like my translation isn't accurate enought (I took my time to search for the meaning of certain native expressions), but I think that's like the cherry on top of the cake.[/url]
