|
|
I've noticed that sometimes if rooms are in one order, for example first door caverns, 01, 3E, it will not look right, but if I swap to 3E, 01, it works fine. Maybe has to do with the direction for the order? Anyone noticed a pattern?
For GE:X just export portals.txt and reuse it in GE before conversion in order to not lose coloration (or any other changes). |

I've heard of other people having this problem, but it hasn't popped up for me, yet. I'm not really sure why the order of room ID's matters to a portal, but it is good to know that you can usually just swap them around to correct it. _________________

it's rather logical if you think about it.
a portal is a 3d surface and every 3d surface has a frontside and a back side, and unless I'm wrong a portal has one room ID per side, so it makes sense that room ID order matters in a portal.
Now what the correct order is, I don't know. should portal faces point at the corresponding room or the opposite direction?
opposite makes more sense, if you ask me. The possible scenario for such requirement would be that when you look at the portal, you are granted vision of the room corresponding to the ID applied to the portal face you are looking at, so room IDs of a portal should be in the face that looks away from the corresponding room.
This has been radorn lecturing about his unproven theories |

I figured out that swapping the room numbers on the portal made it show correctly when working on facility, i believe i posted it.
I had to find an alternative to using extra visibility because even though that worked visualy sometimes players or sims would get stuck when passing between rooms where the portal wasn't working. _________________ My YouTube Channel

Either I've been lucky, or I'm just doing it a little differently, because I haven't had any portals that need their room numbers swapped during any of my background ports. I have run into visibility issues, which usually stems from offsets that require updating, though. My most recent attempt to correct the visibility data in Facility didn't give me great results, and there's even another strange issue in Caverns that needs looking into. Other than that, it's only when a portal crosses through a room that I notice any problems. _________________
