German GoldenEye finished to 100% - But there is one Problem

Hello everybody. I have glad news. I am finish with the german GoldenEye,

BUT i have a big problem.

When i start the rom. it is freezing from beginning. ( black screen at beginning ) I have checked all txt files. When i safe the textfile as a singel one (for example i only add LtitleE.bin it works, and on this way every file works, but when i choose all it crash. I noticed that this beginns when i add the 7th textfile

Sooo what reason could that have ?

DF Ank1, hast du eine Ahnung jetzt?

Ich hab sehr wenig Erfahrung mit den Texten in GE, also von mir aus, könntet es sein daß die übersetzte Datei zu grpß irgendwie ist? Ich habe Threads von anderen Übersetzen gelesen, das war zwar das Problem meistens der Zeit.

The issue has always been text file has been too big, and you need to condense it.

Mhm and what should i do now ? i mean i can´t make it smaller than it is. The translation would allow that.

I don't know how but you'll have to condense the one text file that crashes. Maybe shorted some words or abbreviate?

DF Ank1, if you are okay with possibly uploading it, I would be interested in looking at it. I do professional English/German translations for a living. If there is anything I may do to help condense it or so.

You could use the text condenser on the binary, then import the altered binary back into the ROM.

Basic usage is taking an uncompressed text binary and dropping it onto economizer.exe. It should spit out a new binary optimized as much as possible. From there, import the updated text binary back into the game directly. Otherwise, we'll have to hardcode a larger text segment or throw you into japanese mode.

Optimization works like so:

  • Removing all but first NULL at the end of strings
  • Recycling pointers when the end of one string contains all the characters of another.


(There was a third step, but what was it?)
Anyway, you're guaranteed to get a smaller binary, and it works regardless the language used--presuming I uploaded the japanese-patched one and not the older, buggy copy.
