I cannot get some multiplayer levels to load with four players. Some levels will load with four so I know I have done something right. For example I have created Frigate, saved over complex, made the needed changes in 21990. I go to play with two players and it works, I go to play with four players and I get a black screen. I am using Goldeneye Editor, any help?

This really comes down to texture memory. A level like Frigate requires a lot of textures just for the map itself. When you add in objects, such as doors, it piles up even more. Stick in four different characters and you'll run into some serious issues.

Do you know the trick to force up to three people to use the same character? If you have player four choose, let's say Bond, then change the number of players to three, you make player three also choose Bond. After that, change to two players, and have either player one or two select Bond. Switch it to four players and load the map. If you try this and the map loads, than we know for sure that it's texture memory related.

You can also either try increasing the '-mt' for the level in the 21990 Modifications menu, or remove unnecessary objects from the setup. This is also why some of the actual GoldenEye multiplayer maps aren't accessible with three or four players. Framerate, graphics errors, or blackouts. You'll have to play around with it until you get it working, or just don't allow a certain number of players to access it.

Instead of saving over Complex, try saving over Facility. Of all the multiplayer levels, Facility allots the most texture and stage memory.

Facility sets by default a value of 650 for textures while Complex only sets it to 400.

ALSO - what objects did you leave in the level? Did you leave in all the different radio tuners? Those things if I recall consume a ton of texture memory, you might want to try removing some or all of them if you did include them.

Ah yes i remember makeing a level for muti in the frigate level here the link if you ever feel like trying it out.

http://goldeneyevault.com/viewfile.php?id=185

Now that level prove how much i over done on the object ones again and force it into some problems to.

But its also show how much texture can be use in the Facility level. Since my level replaces that map so i can load all the texture and object into one huge muti match.

You can see it for your self how it plays and how much i force it into loading so much things into it.

But i think its safe to say it uses over 100 object in that level. And now thats a lot for a muti match level if i do say so my self. Razz

Anyway when makeing a level at that size you need to lower the texter at the 600 and then make your level the way you like then ones your ready for test start a 4 player match and see if it will load.

If it wont load at all lower the texture by 50 so then it says 550.

Then restart the match and see if it will load by then.

If it loads then start raiseing it it up by 10 like 560.

Keep going up till it freeze again.

This can take time and a lot of testing but hey its true the only way you know if your level works.

By the way just so you know like wreck said.

limet to a 2 to 3 player map to if you dont want any mess up textures at all.

if you do a 2 to 3 player setup can then try 600 again and it may load on a 2 player match or 3 if your lucky.

Anyway this is kinda the best way i can explane how to do this and stuff so all i can say is good luck. Wink
