R.I.P. Det. Never cool to hear that sort of stuff, and while some of his Beta ideas turned out to be pure dreaming, it didn't stop me from making them into reality (ie. boat and dam).

I think, every beta idea he had was seriously cool, and we should do our best to make a few with the likes of GoldeneyeX and Goldeneye, just as a tribute, a wink and nod if you will.

It seems it changed back to the date he signed up; but I still have my screen cap which says otherwise. Again this may have been a youtube glitch but I don't know

Well it's not true obviously - but I can see it.

One of his video upload dates:
Code:
1,801 views - 2 years ago

That's no where NEAR 2006 - so I believe he logged in recently or YouTube's counter for logins just **** up on him.

I saw a thread on the RWP today where somebody used the archive's wayback machine to view the old banjo-kazooie website. It then occurred to me to see if I could use it to pull up detstars old goldeneye site. Low and behold:

I thank the forum, I miss the visits to this page disappeared and now I can again see some of their contents, of course I would like to hear from similar pages, many rumors are probably fakes, but I had not seen a page dedicated this game with as many items are fakes or not beta. although there are images of beta inaccessible even with the use of codes, for example the old AK47 beta which I like to see it I've ever even be able to play a kind of restoration beta rom hack, I have always considered this site as a kind of goldeneye museum, that is what really stuck in beta, many saw in magazines and the press before its official launch, which left us with the desire and finally we could not play as initially thought goldeneye was sincerely if not for ever existed this page would have cost much more beta codes to find this fantastic game.
hopefully not perish, but the trail of what is left of this page overturned, their contents rarely seen, serves as the USER insipiracion of goldeneyeeditor

It's crazy to think I actually viewed that website in '06, as I was trying to unlock cheats and beat challenges in my little game room.

The days...

How do you think us guys who were around when it was still TGS feel? I was twelve when I found that site. That's probably the biggest reason why its loss bothers me; websites go down all the time, thanks to the editor and interviews we have more information about the games' development than any time in the past, and there certainly wasn't love for the game (or, to be more specific, current happenings with the game--Zoinkity's original Citadel patch didn't get so much as a mention there) anymore towards the end. So to have the plug pulled like that, without any warning, just bothers me.

I remember when it was TGS. I found it through "Top 10 GoldenEye Sites" in 2000, it was one of the few links that still worked and was the one thing that kept me really interested in the game, the huge number of GameShark codes and the Beta speculations had me hooked right away.

Det seemed to want to distant himself from the gaming sites near the end, almost like he was embarrassed to be running gaming sites, which I don't understand why, it paved the way to this forum today and without Det I don't think GoldenEye or Perfect Dark would still be getting love today.

Without that site there would be a hell of a lot of bugs we'd still be discovering today and secrets.

I remember when I found DetStar's site randomly in the net some years ago. After that I looked at the site very often, but the newsticker was refreshed less frequent... And then, suddenly the site was gone.

Luckily it's in the archives at least Smile

"IMOK" is supposed to mean "I'm okay" apparently. I think this guy on GFAQs is him, personally: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/197462-goldeneye-007/63270684

To be honest, I'm glad it went down. For years I'd gotten hate mail for releasing the Citadel patch because "Det said it isn't real". The problem wasn't him obviously, but the fact that these yahoos didn't have enough sense to understand what they were reading.

He did eventually get around to posting Krijy's pictures from GSCentral. Then, the messages changed from lying to people to theft. Why'd I steal Krijy's credit? I didn't! For years!

I wrote that stupid floor a tile at a time by hand while figuring out the format. It took months. Actually, had to do it more than once due to ta couple issues that came up. In fact, I probably still have the GS code version backed up on floppies somewhere. In the original, wild underestimization of how involved this would be and thinking recompression was impossible, the entire floor was coded in GS codes to be used in emulators. Then stuff happened and we even got it to upload to a GS.
--and it still took years for the hate mail to stop. Seriously, do you know how many times it was removed from the wikipedia entry despite a patch? They'd usually cite Det's site as the reference, and I'm sure he's completely oblivious to the whole thing. I also don't blame him for ignoring emails, which likely never made it farther than the spam folder. To be honest though, that site was always cited as an informed resource when most of the stuff was wild, uninformed conjecture.

I'm so glad the Spectrum emu wasn't the same thing all over again. It was amazing how quickly it was accepted despite how close it was to April Fools.
