Yep, challenge 7 crashes after a minute if it booted up fine on console aswell.
Weird sorcery at its finest.

The most important difference from 1.0 to 1.1, and the reason you could get a free upgrade via Nintendo, was an overflow glitch that could occur if bots went into the vents in one of the MP stages, permanently corrupting your save file in a way that made the game unbootable. Not even sure if you could get deep enough into the menus to wipe the corrupted saves.

Blimey! How did a bug like that get past the testers? I knew about the crashes-with-three-players-in-Challenge-7 bug (which I've thankfully never seen, as I think it was fixed for the PAL release), but not the above bug. Is that the cause of all the "PD won't let me save to the cartidge" posts I've seen on the 'net over the years? It's never happened to me, and I don't know if it does happen to PAL users or not.

The save corrupt bug happened for me on PAL.

Not yet for my NTSC v1.0 but I don't know if sims entered the vents.
I could play up to 2 hills or so on challenge 7 3 player, then it crashed.
That's the farthest I ever got.

Hmmm, just tested it with a Perfectsim because he's fast.
I ran to the vents in the Warehouse level, the sim entered it.

I waited until I died, then I ended the game.
My save isn't corrupt, also after resetting N64.
Was I lucky or is there something else?

Kinda necrobump, but useful.

To verify with Gameshark Memory Editor (I used a 3.3 with working parallel) check this location:
80010EA should be 99E0 for 1.1 and 9870 for 1.0
