Same hill in ch 26, always diff in ch 30

The arena in Challenge 26 of the combat simulator is Ruins. When I play Challenge 26, about a quarter of the time, after being king the hill, the same hill resets is the hill again. It does not change, essentially and effectively trying to hold the hill twice in a row, for 40 seconds total. It's strange. Also, I don't like that. It's too easy.

In contrast, the Challenge 30 arena, Skedar, always makes you go to a different hill after a king of the hill has been crowned.

Anyone else notice this? 1st, why is does the Ruins arena do that? 2nd, are there other arenas that do that?

I'm pretty sure it's random. I didn't count, maybe ruins just has less hills. I have played challenge 30 many many times, and there have been times of the same hill in a row.

There is an option that allows you to set whether a Hill stays in the same place or not throughout the match, and I'm pretty sure Challenges (and also preset matches) do affect that setting. Perhaps, as Sub suggested, Ruins may have fewer Hills total, and that could cause it to have a repeated location every so many changes. It should choose at random, so any one of the predetermined rooms can be chosen.

I often find myself respawning at the same place two or three times in a row, even though it generally has twelve potential pads to put me to. I guess the game rolls the dice and lands on the same number once in a while.

The respawn ai in PD I think is a little less intelligent than GE. It does seem to get stuck in a LOOP instead of going through the list. Sometimes I've killed players like a zombie movie just trying to get them to link to another pad I entered in a modded level. Laughing pop the beer caps fellas it's going to be a long test today while we wait for the player to get to another start point. Cool

GE respawns just run through the list A-Z, skipping some due to proximity tests. PD chooses at random, and can often put you back at the same place you had previously started. I'd say that is an improvement, especially considering that your human opponents won't know where you're going to reappear next and gun you down before you have a decent chance of procuring a weapon.

I've also played Challenge 30 numerous times, and by that I mean in the 100's and 100's or thousands, and I have never seen a hill re-used consecutively. One of my favourite 'challenges' is to load Challenge 30, then delete my normalsim teammate and make no other modifications, so it's only me and the two darksims. The more challenging, the more fun

If any of you all ever happen to catch a video of one hill twice in a row happening in the king of hill Skedar arena, post it and let me know.

I'm fairly sure it's happened to me though. Though, I took a look, strangely skedar only has 5 hills, while Ruins has actually 7. I'm not sure if it's algorithm related (if people in all hills, can repeat?), algorithm distance related, or something special with ruins. But I really think it's happened to me, in a row, on the little hill in Skedar.

I count 6 hills in Ruins.

1. The corner hill (the one hill that is often re-used consecutively)
2. The big room hill that has the reaper
3. The small sliver hill closeby to the big room
4. The hill that is half of the room, that has mauler
5. The white hill at the top of the curvy corridors, with laptop gun
6. The room with the three vertical spikes and has an open top, with falcon

you count seven. which one am I missing?

Also, to note, only the corner hill is the hill that is re-used consecutively, that I've noticed. The others in Ruins aren't ever re-used twice in a row.

OK, I think you may have solved the issue. Perhaps was my imagination in Skedar, although I really thought the little hill did it more than once.

There is a repeated hill. Here are presets from editor used for hill rooms:

how interesting. I 'solved' it, but I didn't know I was doing that.

That sucks that rare re-used that hill again as a 'separate' hill. It makes this king of the hill Challenge 26 too easy. Even with I replace the intelligence of the sims to make both darksims, it's still too easy. It doesn't get challenging until I make both of the default sims darksims then add three additional darksims to their team (all on the same darksim team)

Why are there those drone guns in the pics you posted?

Oh, it's just the way the editor shows "gun placement", since they are set to prop #00 (dynamically assigned).
