Former Rare Employee's have come together to create what they dub as a spiritual successor to the Banjo series (not counting N&B).
What they show actually has promise and they even got Grant Kirkhope to come and do some of the music for the game.

Alright, I kickstarted it. It looks good enough at least. Not sure if they can recreate the magic, but hey, worth a shot. Bet Rare will be kicking themselves soon.

Once I get a few more bucks in PayPal, I'll definitely shoot them over a bit. Seems like it will be pretty fun. Plus, the music is just too good to ignore. Very Happy

This looks fantastic! Brings a huge smile to my face knowing the old rare employees are coming together to design a fantastic Banjo Kazooie style game. I can't wait to play this. Very Happy

Another thing that excites me, is the fact that this is an actual development team now. Which means in the new future we might even see some FPS ideas from this team.

This is gonna be pretty sweet to play on it's release.

Can't wait to put some money into this game.

By Cauterize

For many the likes of Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie are the definitive 3D platformers. While the genre may no longer be as popular as it once was, various projects such as the recent Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter are hoping to revive those magical moments - as are Nintendo 64 ROM hackers too. The recently announced Banjo-Kazooie Returns is an unofficial sequel to Rare's 1998 hit for the 64-bit system, created by hacking in new worlds and music to the original game.

Although this follow up is yet to be released, developer Michael Koczwara has been posting various screenshots and trailers online showcasing what's in store for Banjo-Kazooie fans in the near future. Aside from promising as many new levels as the original had to offer, Koczwara is being rather tight lipped about what else this upcoming ROM hack will bring.

Furthermore, no release date has been set due to the game being a spare-time project of Koczwara's, although he has stated that another teaser trailer will be uploaded sometime in July.

As Banjo-Kazooie Returns has been created by tinkering with the existing Banjo Kazooie Nintendo 64 ROM, the chances that you'll be able to play this on the original hardware (via an Everdrive 64 flash cartridge) is very high. With this in mind, don't be surprised if upon release you start seeing fan-made cartridges with Banjo Kazooie Returns on them. Until then though, stay tuned for more updating on this promising development.

Would kickstart it but the most modern device I've got that not work-related (and they ask we don't play games or watch porn...without sharing the latter) is a dream cast Sad but I really think it's going to come through even with the magic!

Wow! Banjo-Kazooie Returns could be fantastic (as long as it works on flash cartridges) and it's about time we got a Banjo-Kazooie 3, even if it's a fan-made mod.

I assume it's being made with Banjo's Backpack? Great to see others carrying out hacking projects. Though I never played Banjo-Kazooie, I'm sure it will turn out into a quality modification.

Looks really cool, however whoever is developing bottles glasses/banjos-backpack/mumbos wand (whichever is latest in development) really need to incorporate Vertex shading to allow designers to add lighting to banjo worlds.

With that said, designers really need to add lighting/shading to their worlds. They wont shade themselves, at least not in GE/PD or in BK/BT.

Im not sure if Rogue Squadron (to name one title) is fully automatically lit, or whether they too are pre-shaded and only lasers light vertexes as they pass over.
One would think that the world would be pre-shaded to save computational calculations.
