The 0064

I finally finished a project I've wanted to do for a long time, I've built a n64 portable and here is a video for you to take a look at it in action.

Outstandingly impressive! I especially liked the slideshow at the end as it offered a really valuable insight into the design process Very Happy Very Happy

Are you prepared for the plethora of requests to buy/build now? It'll happen with that level of workmanship!

Thanx, im very proud of it Smile

I've already been asked a few times by people I know and online, I would love to make custom consoles for people but its time consuming.

Looks great! Thinking of doing my own, but my soldering skills are abismal!

Very nice work! I've watched a few different videos of people who have made custom N64 portables, and this ranks right up there with some of the best. Some of them look really snazzy, but don't have as many features. And I'm sure if you decided to work on more in the future, that you can only improve with each attempt.

Very nice! I always wanted the N64 control layout on a portable. But I could never have the time to build it. The size of it also seems to be a bit too big, but I know some don't have tiny baby hands like me.

I also feel like the D-pad should of been moved upwards some more, since it's be odd playing games like Kirby 64 with having your hand below that far.

Also, if you're using the standard N64 control stick (which always seems to brteak). You could get a 3rd party replacement. Or you could try the GCN-styled crossover I made. (link below)

MRKane also has a much better design that could also be used in the said thread.

Linky here.

Either way. This is pretty dang good. Looks good, sounds good, and functions good.

EDIT: After watching the breakdown, I think all that tape and cardboard inside the guts could be a fire hazard. Maybe you should try to replace it with something less flammable?

EDIT 2: Are there 2 Z buttons? How does that work, if you did that?

You know, there needs to be like a factory or an incorporation that makes these things and sells them. Great work!

If I make another one there is a couple of things you mentioned ide like to do, definatly make it smaller, I would move the dpad up and in and ide do the same with the start button.
I looked into using a NGC stick and even tried one on a normal controller and even though they do last longer they just don't feel quite right especially in first person shooters with aiming witch two of my favourite games are (GE/PD) so I just made it very easy to replace.
In the video I do say that I only wanted one Z button.
The tape is electrical tape so would be fine and there is no cardboard in this portable?

@00action

I might of mis-saw plastic as a cardboard of sorts. My eyesight isn't the best, so I might of just been being confused.

Yeah the whole GCN joystick on FPS games does feel odd, especially on 3rd party replacements, since they wonky sensitivity to them.

And yes, I noticed you only had one Z button on the final, saw the other one in the picture slideshow of the creation, and assumed it had two Z buttons. Again, eyes and simple mindsets sometimes mess with ya.

Also. Have any suggestions for the screen material? Since I have an extra N64 lying around. I may just do this.

For the screen I used a Portable 7" TFT LCD Screen Monitor For Car Rear View.

Would a screen from a DSI work? As I don't see use of it since I have a 3DS now.

I want to make a smaller and more optimized portable.

No I don't think a ds screen would work, although I've never looked in one.
