I've been thinking has there ever been an attempt to hack the weapon locations on each slot? For example, slot 1 has a Mauler and it spawns two different locations for the Mauler can slot 1 be hacked so that instead of 2 mauler's placed in two different locations for slot 1 you have 1 location with the mauler and another with a shotgun? A hack like this for the first 4 slots would mean changing up 8 different weapon locations with the exception of slots 5 and 6 which are mostly used for armor/shield anyway. I took a look at some of the GoldenEye hacks like BMW and saw how each location on a map had different weapons on all the available spots. Can this be something possible as well in the PD engine? _________________ "The Eye of Thundera, give me sight beyond sight!" |

In GoldenEye, you choose each weapon in the set individually, inside the 21990 index file. Pickups F0 - F7 each transform into the corresponding item when the stage begins. So you could create a totally unique set with eight different weapons. The level setup affects this, as well, since you select the pickup ID's for the stage. For a larger level, such as Library, you'll end up using duplicates, since eight weapons aren't enough.
In PD, the weapon system has been altered. It gets more complicated once you introduce a sixth weapon to the set, or disable other things. That's why something like the Pistols set is not capable of being reproduced properly, without breaking practically everything else. And Golden Gun can't have a Silenced PP7 instead of a second Golden Gun correctly. Even if you think you might have got it right, it breaks other sets. I've made changes to certain GE-X levels, like Rare did to the Classics, in a conscious effort to make better use of the weapon system. Armour that can be made into other pickups with ammo crates, including extras for up to twelve active players (4 human, 8 Sims), and spreading out pickups where identical weapons may have been a bit close in the original. Some may not agree with or understand my choices. If others want to alter things to their own liking, the Editor has all the tools necessary to try their hand at it. But if someone just wants a 1:1 copy of GoldenEye 007, than GE-X may not be for them. Especially now that there are reload animations and fewer paired weapons. |
