I'm just curious. I know most here are Nintendo fans, but surely one of us is pumped about the PS3. For me, it's a shooters thing. Halo 3 basically wins out for me. I'm crazy enough just to buy a system because of one kick ass shooter. Back back to my question. Who the hell is buying this thing??

Why did you mention Halo 3 when you were talking about the PS3?

Back on topic: I've always hated the PS controller, so I will not be getting a PS3 even if it was just $10.

LOL that's funny. I'm talking about Halo3 because I can't think of an exlclusive shooter on the PS platform that I want to play.

That's the problem with exclusivity in gaming.
With Halo 3 only being released on the XBox 360, the only way to play it is to own the console. Then we have the same deal with the next entry into the MGS series. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be a Playstation 3 blockbuster. Being a fan, I really want to play it. However, that means purchasing the system, which I've no other great reason to. Besides Resident Evil 5, being released for both PS3 and the 360. You know my feelings towards the Xbox...

High price, weak game lineup, controller. (No rumble is the problem for those who do like the design.)

Also, the Blu-Ray disk is said to have high loading times.

I dunno wats wrong with the ps3, maybe nothing. Let's be honest, sony has dominated the gaming market, I doubt ps3 will be any different. I will say, the whole bluray aspect isn't a big selling point for me at all.

Price point, it is really expensive, especially in CAD currency. I am not ready to pay 749$ CAD when I already paid 500$ CAD for a 360 last x-mas. I know I might end up having one sooner or later but I am totally enjoying my 360 right now and it's been out for over a year, therefore there are so many great games on the 360.

Graphically, they will be both very similar. You've got 512 mb ram dedicated to graphics on the 360 and 256 mb shared ram on the ps3 for graphics. However, the Cell on the ps3 will improve the physics in the game as for the 360 will provide games with better textures.

The only reason the PS3 is so expensive is because of the built-in bluray player. But as I stated in another post, bluray and hddvd's are uneeded at the moment unless you have 1080p resolution hdtv. 9 gb dvd's are fine for gaming right now...for another 6 years until the next-next gen consoles come out.

Yeah I agree. The size of the disk doesn't mean much. Filling that up with good content? Impossible. Well possible if developers can spend more than 5 years on games, which won't happen.

Microsoft's highly anticipated sci-fi trilogy called Too Human which is coming out next year on the 360 has been in the works for over 10 years (proof in the EGM mag issue # 203) can fit a regular DVD.

Too Human is being developed by Silicon Knights, which is no more than five minutes drive from my house. Based in St. Catharines, they've grown tremendously since their lawsuit against Crystal Dynamics. A few employees who left the company ended up joining with the famed Gex creators. Using a game title from one of their previous games, they released "The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver". However, the name and related characters were owned by Silicon Knights. "The Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen" being the original product. Dennis Dyack, founder of the company, went after Crystal Dynamics in court. It took him everything he had, which led him to victory. Not only did they win a vary large sum of money, they later sold the rights to the name to the company that they had just sued. If Dyack hadn't stuck it out, Silicon may still be a relatively unknown PC game developer. That nightmare turned into a dream come true.

I was Kain for holloween and nobody knew who the hell I was! Anyway, back on topic, I was excited about the PS3. (keyword is "was") But now, with Halo 3 and the *hopfully* posibility of Fable 2, the 360 is number one in my book now. Perhaps even over the Wii.

Gold_N that's a great point about the size of games. I really think they are pushing the whole nex gen dvd crap simply for the sake of copy protection. I think it's crazy to think that developers can invest so many years and labour into trying to fill up a blueray disc. Nobody would invest that time. I could be wrong but I doubt it. It will be interesting to see how much "free space" is left on the game disks hey?
