Hacking menus -- am I going about it wrong?

Hi all,

I wanted to fix the hi-res menus, so I started messing with a patched ROM with LemAsm (using info from https://gitlab.com/kholdfuzion/Gold007/tree/master/GE%20Documentation). I was more concerned with menus 06 & 0E, but started messing with the legal screen (3F5BC, 3F5C0, & 3F5C4). I get all sorts of funky results--seems it's not as simple as incrementing/decrementing those values to move things around. Also, when I try changing 3F5B8 (to match the Zoinkity documentation), LemAsm changes it to NOP.

I've never done any ROM hacking of any sort, and I'm wondering if I'm going about this entirely the wrong way. I have extremely little ASM experience (brushed up against it in an architecture class once... I'm mostly familiar with Pascal/PHP/Java).

I prefer to assemble codes using Renegade 64 and manually enter them using a hex editing tool, then redoing CRC on rom.

Well really I test them first using nemu live, then when it works do to rom.

Nemu 64 seems to work with every rom except Goldeneye. Any tips?

Thanks. Those files didn't seem to work (no Debugger in menu), but the pj64d files at https://github.com/shygoo/project64d/releases/download/snapshot5/pj64d-snapshot-5.zip work great.
