I don't remember where I posted this image, but it's a complementary explanation about GoldenEye clipping that might help you.

wow look at all those English mistakes Confused

This doesn't apply to Perfect Dark since you don't even need the tris to physically touch.

Yes, thank you for doing this. I found the old thread. This actually makes sense.

Just to be clear though,

clipping tiles are separate from the floor's geometry? Meaning the individual triangles making up the walkable floor area are always not always going to be an exact match of the clipping tiles. As long as the entire area is filled properly it will work, correct?

That sounds mostly correct. Though, it is typically a good idea for the clipping to match the background so it can align with the portals better. The clipping still needs to be split into rooms. Less important, the tiles also match so they can be shaded to match the shading on the background model (clipping affects the lighting seen on objects, guards, and hands).

So, it doesn't need to be exactly the same, but it usually is in most areas. Sometimes an inclined plane works better than a 90 degree angle, though, so deviate when it works better.

I feel like Keanu Reeves on the Matrix "I know Kung-Fu... AND Clipping ! Whoa!"

Feels like such a break through and it seems so simple now.
