Greetings everyone! I am new to this forum (and to GoldenEye hacking in general) and would greatly appreciate some help in my ROM-hacking endeavors. I want to create a ROM hack that is an entire game in its own right (akin to Goldfinger 64) called The Living Daylights 64, based on the film of the same name. It will have all new levels (including multiplayer) and feature Timothy Dalton as James Bond. I have downloaded the latest version of the GoldenEye Setup Editor and have played around with it, familiarizing myself with the old guides posted on the N64 vault. But therein lies the problem: information on how to get started for newbies like myself is old. The guides, while still helpful to some degree, are for much older versions of the setup editor. In addition, there's a lot that they don't cover, like editing the game's main intro (gunbarrel, etc.) and menus, at least from what I could find. So could anyone tell me how to:

- Edit the game's menus (file portraits, color)
- Edit the game's main intro (gunbarrel, logo, character introduction segment, and demos)
- Play as a different character in single player mode (in this case Dalton's Bond instead of Brosnan's Bond)
- Change/add automated NPC movements (like Natalya or Valentin)
- Create and add new music to the game

Furthermore, if anyone would like to help me with this project, please let me know in your replies to this thread or PM me! Thank you very much.

Wow, another Bond mod, at the same time when TSWLM64 is in development. Someone in that group suggested about having a mod containing TLD and LTK together (10 levels each) which would be a good idea, like what they've done with Quantum of Solace where they included Casino Royals scenes as well.

Have you worked out which characters and level scenes (including bonus levels) will be in the game? You could also watch the film and do some map drawings and take note of some dialogues you want to include into the game.

For the ROM, first thing you need to do is patch it with Carnivorous footstep patch (this also contain the expansion pak feature). I've heard from someone in the TSWLM group that it deletes all the L__J files (Japanese) from the NTSC version, so you can create your own custom file slots for more characters as its very likely you'll need it.

Yes, I have a good idea of how the game will be structured (I've been "developing" the game in my head for a few months now) and I have seen the film before obviously. In fact, I plan on watching it again soon to get a better idea of how I want the game to be. I'm flexible, but generally speaking the game will follow the structure of the movie as closely as possible: the first level will be Gibraltar, followed by the opera house in the Czech Republic, so on and so forth. The final level (before bonus stages) will be a boss fight with Whitaker.

As for the bonus levels, I haven't fully decided what I want those to be. I was thinking that one of them could be the fight at the Skyfall estate from Skyfall (sort of a defend M type of mission with waves of enemies akin to the Control level where you must protect Natalya). For the other, I was thinking of including something from OHMSS, but like I said, I'm flexible and open to other ideas.

The characters I want to include are: Bond, Cara (as a Natalya-esque AI character that appears in most missions), Koskov, Whitaker, Saunders, and Necros. Again, open to adding more if the need arises (potentially the other two 00 agents that were at Gibraltar but I don't know if they're absolutely necessary).

I need help on the technical aspects of editing the game, whether it be through the Setup Editor or Zonkity's disassembled GoldenEye on the things I mentioned in the first post (editing menus, etc.). I know my way around 3D modeling software as I have some experience with Sketchup and Blender, so creating new maps is really the only thing in this project at this point where I pretty much know what I'm doing truth be told.

I knew there was high demand for a Dalton Mod, but didn't think there would be talks of one this soon. I think it's an excellent project, there is just one minor gripe I have with it. Please don't have a Skyfall level, I'm pretty deep in development on one for TSWLM 64 already. Other than that let me give some of what I have learned from the experience. First thing, make a discord account (if you haven't already). It's a great way to get in contact with other modders, as well as sharing ideas in large groups.Second document everything. If create a group this will be a great way to ensure everyone knows what needs to get done. Plus it's a great way to explain what you want without actually telling it. Third, if you plan on making the levels yourself, start with Blender, it's Free and fully compatible with the GE editor. One final thing if you want an original soundtrack to the game, I have a composer in my group that would love to be a part of this. I also have a few extras that can help as well. You can find them here. https://discordapp.com/invite/rCFKAgm I wish you the best of luck in you endeavor.

Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words, and since you already called dibs on a Skyfall level, I will scrap that. Timothy Dalton is my favorite Bond so the second I heard of and started getting involved in the GoldenEye modding community I knew I would want to make a Goldfinger 64-like mod of a Dalton film. I have pretty good technical skills (although in terms of coding I have only rudimentary knowledge) so I knew I would want to make my own mod at some point. I am currently working on a document that contains the outline of the game (like I said, I've been working on it in my head for a while now, so it's a Mather of getting it down on paper). As for the discord, do I just go ahead and ask for help? Is there anyone in particular I should ask about certain details I'm unfamiliar with like editing menus or characters?

Thank you, this list is very helpful! I feel kind of stupid for spelling Kara's name with a C in my previous post haha. I was thinking that Necros could actually be based on Jaws' model considering he's a big Arian henchman but he might be too tall.

Even if Jaws was used as the base model for another character, you could probably just reduce his scale in the Model Details of the 21990 Game Configuraton menu, or possibly the Model Editor. Rare shrunk down the second version of Natalya, so her kissing animations with Bond would line up better. Also, I believe Oddjob was enlarged in GF64 to make him taller. You could do similar with Jaws to lower his height a bit.
