The sky is original, but man that N64 shot is in terrible quality again, makes the new one look better. You can't even read the zoom-numbers.
Shocked

That comparison shot isn't even from original....

The numbers doesn't match, just like blurred versions of the new one, and the radar is messed up.

(Click for "Magic Button"!)

I'm actually really looking forward to this XBLA title! So far, I am liking all the pics - all we need to see now is some footage, or indeed a trailer of some sort!

I think the city looks incredible, but for some reason all props, like the falcon, look washed out

Could the "original" N64 game graphics comparison shots seem so blurry because of the difference in resolution? If the game is supposed to be running in HD, than wouldn't it affect the appearance of the original? Almost as though it needs to upscale everything to accommodate the new resolution? In this case, making it look a hell of a lot worse than it really is. And perhaps by sheer coincidence (I think not...), creating the illusion that the new graphics update is so much cleaner and crisper.

I see what you mean, Sub. The props and characters are missing the "oomph" that makes everything else in the background stand out. That lack of sharpness makes them seem dull and, as you've said, almost washed out. Maybe they just need to punch up the contrast a bit.

I also see what you mean, Sub.

We'll have to see how the game looks when it is in action!

Sky: Hmmm, is that a reddish sky with cyan clouds in the "original" version of the image? I'd have to play PD again on an N64 console to see if it's the same.

Someone goofed; the original clouds were yellow. The red looks wrong too, but that might just be because the clouds are alpha blended, and the cyan is making it the wrong shade. I had a pretty hard time getting a custom GE sky just right because of how much the cloud color affects the sky (the opposite applies too).

Rihanna: After Kode-Z added the side comparison shots, I'm starting to notice the resemblence. Both the forehead and nose seem very similar, indeed. Her hairstyle and makeup are also alike, atleast in those uploaded photos. Perhaps Rihanna's image and style was used as a basis for the updated Joanna. Hell, even their names are close enough.

Good eye, Kode-Z. Wink

So far, I have no major problems whatsoever with this port. The only things that I'm sleightly concerned about are:

*That they keep ALL voice acting parts. Re-recording all the speech, even the bad acting, would be blasphemy.

*That they keep multiplayer options the same. They shouldn't "compete" with Halo and CoD - PD helped refine the FPS genre in th early 2000's.

*That they have the "Magic Button" option, to play in the classic N64 graphics. Judging by the promo shots, it looks like this would happen. Time will tell!

Other than that, I'm awaiting for the release date!

Finally, a video! A stroll around the Carrington Intitute!:

PLUS A whole bunch of pics!:

EDIT: Judging by some of the pics, this is from the Dev kit of PD. Maybe it's what was in the original N64 PD? Interesting stuff!

Also, apparently the XBLA port of PD was built using the updated GoldenEye engine! (Which explains why the weapon modes are in the CI Training.) What a great return in history that is!

The CI looks pretty good, but again, some things just seem off. Like the front doors, they're way too light, and they look entirely different. I know that's really nitpicky. This CI isn't nearly as impressive to me now as the original was when I first saw it, let's put it that way.

The one good thing I've seen so far is that the classic weapons will be available in multiplayer. Let's just hope they don't do anything stupid like trying to rebalance them to fit in alongside the weaker, slower PD stuff. Even the prop weapon models look faded. PD was so shiny looking when it came out, it's really odd to see them so bland looking in this remake. Even the logo (strange to see them keep the N...who wants to bet it starts out as a giant X?) is dull looking now.

I'm still not sold. I like how we can play it online, but really hoping they have an old graphics mode, since they still seem washed out or "hi-res pack"-ey. The youtube vid is down though.

Wow, that went down fast. I'm not surprised though. Just look at the Felicity shots; same thing basically. The shiny floor is still there on the lower level, still faked (no actual reflection, not that I care, it's still a great looking trick). The GE guns are still in their display cases; I don't know if the guy tried to activate them, but he did approach them for an oddly long time, and nothing was displayed. Speaking of displayed, the DD44 clipped through the wall. Basically it was Jo walking from her PC, to the elevator, and down to the firing range. Almost nothing.

They've been showing shots of the "original" graphics mode, and I'm not too happy with them. They've got a ton of filtering applied, which removes a lot of the original look. The original graphics were sharp looking; I've heard this kind of filtering described as rubbing Vaseline on your monitor before. They're using the same HUD graphics as the remade graphics, just scaled down, making the small digits unreadable. They didn't even get the cloud color right in Crash Site. It seems like original graphics mode is just a half-hearted attempt at appealing to people who still think the original graphics stand up.

I think the only way I'd become interested in this is if it was announced for the PC. I'm usually more of a console fan, the only reason I'd want it on the PC is because it'll probably run better than emulating the original with the Glide plugin.

I'm still far from sold, myself. Something feels... wrong. Certain portions of levels look really nice, while the rest doesn't seem to even match up with the original. And why do the guns look worse in this graphical update? Confused

The strange thing is, the GoldenEye remake was much better looking. The only thing I remember disliking about that were the guard models. The weapons looked good (I think we only saw the PP7 and KF7, though), the backgrounds were fine, and the original graphics shot of Dam fooled me; I thought it was from the original game. It had its issues, but it was also in an unfinished state, so I just assumed those would be cleaned up before release (maybe not). I don't know how they got so much wrong with PD...
