^ same here. I never actually beat goldeneye since it was my friends game and he already beat it on agent. But now that I have it on Wii I beat it on agent too. I'm currently stuck on special agent on controls.God it is unfair that they put the auto guns right in the beginning of the level, I came out of the lift and a few seconds later I'm swish cheese for God's sake.I also skipped statue cause I absolutely CANNOT find my way around in that level.

Diddy Kong Racing isn't all that difficult unless you are trying to accomplish getting T.T as a playable racer...then I would have to agree with you on that one, Sir.

Another really difficult game I remember for NES was Contra - anybody ever beat it WITHOUT using the 30-lives cheat?

Ahh- Battletoads Laughing that game you have to play 20+ times due to its "trial & error" mode of play

Now then, what else? Double Dragon 3 was pretty difficult, esp. with all the falling pits in the final Mission.

Ninja Gaiden 1 & 3, & maybe even 2 were pretty merciless at some points.

Perfect Dark, on Perfect Agent & on having to unlock some of those cheats, started getting so nerve-wracking it wasn't fun anymore.

As soon as I beat TMNT 3: Radical Rescue, I'll add it to the list.

Edit: ZOMG! Did it!

Contra is actually pretty easy on NES standards.
All the bosses are just a joke. It mainly takes memory to remember where the enemies come from and how to deal with them. The spreadgun is too powerful, usually when I play Contra with my friends, we make contract that if someone picks up that gun, you must kill yourself. Laughing

I had a chance to try game called "Lady Bug".
I played it A LOT in early 80's on arcade and I was so jealous when my friend got it on Colecovision. It was almost perfect translation to home console.

Now near me one pub got this on arcade, it is also free-to-play.

The game has 18 levels, and I'm pretty sure that no-one has ever beat them all legally. I found one video from internet where this one Japanese guy plays it and even he doesn't get longer than level 11 or 12, even he has some supernatural reflexes and all.

I'm planning to start practising it and maybe someday I can get further than I got as an kid. I have to say that it is the hardest game I know, and it makes games like Battletoads look like a walk in the park.
Laughing

I wouldn't say it's up to par with the older games that offered unfairly brutal challenges, but Donkey Kong Country Returns Mirror Mode was quite the task. For those not familiar with it, it's playing through the entire game with a few changes. For one, you only play as Donkey Kong. This means you don't get the extra assistance from Diddy. He can allow you to hover in a jump, making landings far more precise. Diddy can also run along DK's back to move him like a speeding boulder. Having Diddy even gives you more hit points. Normally, you can have up to a max of four hits before losing a life. But in Mirror Mode, you only get one. Everything is also, as you may have guessed, mirrored. This means that the boss 'patterns' that you've gotten used to (which still get switched up once in a while to fool you), are all happening from the opposite side of the screen. Kind of takes getting used to. While the general levels weren't too bad (thanks to checkpoints), the KONG temples and a few of the bosses were a real pain in the rear end. The reward for completing such a daunting task... not even worth it. Thanks, Nintendo.

Doing it the first time with DMC 1 was painful, after I played through it 2 or 3 times on dmd I played through the second and third, and it was still a little hard but I got through it rather quickly
