You need an Expansion Pak, turn the code generator on from the menu and then hit the GS button while playing to bring it up.
If you don't have an Expansion Pak, make sure you buy a first party Nintendo one, the third party ones are cheaper but have a habit of burning out.
Oh, and you have to have a GS Pro, not a normal one. I think all versions of the Pro have the code generator, I'm not sure though. |

For some reason I was thinking the expansion pak was required for the code generator. Do you have the memory editor in the code generator menu? Maybe that's all you need it for (Or maybe I'm just wrong, it's been years since I used my GS for it). |

Yeah, you're going to require an Expansion Pak in order to use the Code Generator / Memory Editor functions. Without one, the options aren't accessible from the GameShark's start menu. They should be available for a good price on eBay, but I can't say how much they'll pop-up for in used game stores. _________________
