(Mostly) Random Weapon Set!
This annoyingly long code will randomly choose a weapon set for you. Just simply select "Random" in weapons. (it replaces "Slappers Only") The "mostly" has to do with the fact that it randomly generates a number between 0-F, and there are only 0xD sets. So, like it or not, certain sets are slightly more likely than others.
There are three flavors, and each one selects a different set and duplicates different sets.
Cherry-Doom one will select every set, including slappers. Remote mines and Grenades are most common.
Avacado will leave out Slappers, but you're still stuck with throwing knives. Remote mines are most common, but Grenades again are duplicated.
Oat-Bran skips Slappers and Throwing Knives. However, you better like Pistols, because they're a 5-1 bet.
Here are the codes. NTSC only, at least for now.

Randomness is good.
That sounds pretty cool, Zoink. You've been doing a lot of great multiplayer hacks as of late. This should appeal to anyone who has grown tired of the already available weapon sets, or for those who can never agree on which grouping to use. Now you can just choose random and play. Very nifty. |

this doesn't sound too bad
BTW, about the 13 weapon sets...
after the weapon set data, there's a list with pointers to each weapon set data offset.
isn't it possible to move that list into some 00-area and expand it (= more weapon sets)?
well... of course it is, but I thought of non-ROM-hacks.
though I couldn't find any reference to the list in the RAM |

Can't really move it unless the stuff that reads it can be changed, but since those addresses float around and are only static in the TBL, it would be a ROM hack only.
Besides, if you're going to ROM hack the crap out of the routine, you might as well go all the way and completely redo it from the ground up. There's this little work in progress that has each weapon using the PAL reduced format and ref'ing each weapon by a weapon call number. It's just a little buggy so the patch isn't quite ready for release yet. (slappers screw it up, of all things) _________________ (\_/) Beware

I see, so eventually there might be codes which randomise everything in multiplayer's settings? |

I've thought of a random character select, but never really seriously concidered it. Random scenario would be troublesome though.
There's probably a shorter, more effective way to do what this code does using existing ranomizer effects... _________________ (\_/) Beware

Pretty cool. I haven't gotten to try it, but from what I understand it randomizes which of the preset weapon sets is chosen (ie, replaces me just closing eyes and pressing A a bunch of times). I wouldn't mind seeing complete and utter randomization of the actual weapons.
Random chars shouldn't be too bad either. I think difficult part is generating the random key. |
