PD Viewer Pak, Project Mode, Setup Editor 2.2
January 6, 2008 11:42 pm | SubDrag
Today marks the release of GoldenEye Setup Editor 2.2. First of all, it has switched to Visual Studio 2008, so once you download it, you will need to install the VS2008 Redist. Editor 2.2 adds a new Project mode, which lets you view, save, and open Projects (and not just setup files). Timed to be released at the same time, is the PD Level Viewer Pak. Once installed (after Setup Editor 2.2 is installed), it will let the user open up all of the PD levels in the GoldenEye Setup Editor, and navigate around as well as view the original PD Pad locations. Similarly, there's a tutorial on the new Project mode.

Note to win 9x users:
The visual studios 2008 libraries aren't being distributed for anything prior to win2000. If you have an older OS, stick to the old editor like glue until somebody makes a workaround for the new MFC libraries.
Everyone else:
The project mode is absolutely the best feature to come out since the visual window. Be sure to read the doc on how to use projects as well:

Can you email me the final VS2003 version? I don't have it.
It's still quite nice to have a pad map. Oh yeah, I wanted the editor to do a top view like that that could be viewed. Oh well, maybe one day. |

Great map! I never would have guessed there are so many points in Chicago, and oddly I had to make a few... We've all been there before. I made one for Archives before we figured out an easier way, added text descriptions for a few hundred images for the original image tool, did a few dozen stages and floors before Sub perfected this amazing convertor...
You may be pleased to know that Wreck did the same thing, outlining Complex, in order to figure out rooms, room numbers, pad types, etc to make the PD viewer possible. It's that hard work that makes it all possible. It's when you sit there pointlessly for hours though hacking the snot out of something that you really come to appreciate when somebody automates it. (by 'somebody' I usually mean Sub ;*) There was a time when placing a preset in GE was almost unfathomable, when moving a point in clipping was as absurd as doing a whole floorplan, when you couldn't look at all the images and swap them around.
Congratulations, you're becoming a hacker ;*) Slow but sure. I tip my hat to your worthy effort _________________ (\_/) Beware

It is impressive work actually. Part of the reason I try to do everything automatically is because I'm too lazy to put in the hard work to do things manually. Actually, can you check my work using your pad map? I did the whole pd pad viewer, but never double checked it. I know some setups do get path preset errors, but I'm hoping that's isolated to the path preset table.

I fixed the conversion so the setup files actually work now. PD apparently used the left-most byte in the path preset linkages. Now somebody just needs to clip everything. I do think the auto-clippers are close to good enough now. More levels to come. |

Funny, I do everything manually because I'm too impatient to let the programs run ;*)
I spot-checked the positions (about 10 of them) and they're right where they should be. You're accurate to the map, and from the looks of it in-game as well. _________________ (\_/) Beware
