|
|
Since my computer isn't capable of running any of the N64 Emulators that I've tried, I can't check this out for myself. However, I find it an important question to ask. In many stages in GoldenEye's multiplayer, you'll find the game encounters a frame drop and slows down. This occurs most often in 4-Player mode on certain levels, like Archives for example. It's far worse in the Backzone, even if there aren't any props. Apparently the frames hold better via emulation, in comparison to the console. If this is so, does it also improve some of the other stages, such as the dreaded Depot? The Depot slows to a crawl with only 2-Players, so four is pretty much out of the question. I don't know if she's ever been tested on an emulator, but I'd like to see if it's any better. Some of these maps are almost unplayable, due to frameloss and blackouts, but if they work better on something as powerful as a PC, than it might be worth another look, especially when considering the possibilities with the Revolution.
GE Master: Could you check this out for me? I don't know if you've got four USB N64 controller adapters or not, but that shouldn't matter. If you need codes to try Depot multi, I'll dig them up. Did you ever check to see the difference between blackoutting on console and emulation? That would be another thing to examine. An excellent place to start would be Silo...
If you could take a gander, I'd really appreciate it, buddy! |

I know this isn't exactly what you're asking about, but I have been playing Goldeneye on an emulator as well as my N64 recently and have really been noticing the framerate drop, even single player on the N64. I do tend to notice a much greater drop in FPS while using the emulator though, even playing the game within the original design parameters. As I mentioned in my topic http://www.shootersforever.com/forums_message_boards/viewtopic.php?t=22 I noticed massive amounts of lag even while playing normal, closed levels like facility. I don't know how multiplayer would be affected, as I know the majority of games played use single-shot or few shot weapons while playing the GS availible only maps because I'm not sure if the game lagged because there was too much for the emulator to process, or just because of the amount of machine gun fire on screen at once (about 7 guards firing at the same time).
I'm not sure this is really gonna help answer you're question, as I only have 1 USB controller myself and cannot try the levels in multiplayer but I'm happy to at least attempt to help out. _________________ ~Keith~

Yeah same with me. Most N64 games have pretty bad framerate on my computer, but then again my computer sucks. I've been wanting to get HL2 so I can play GE Source, but my computer just cant handle it. |

You can still try out the multiplayer levels with one controller via usb adapter. Just choose the same controller from the input plugin. All players will move at the same time, but none the less you can peek around some of the multi maps via emu this way. |

Alright, I'll take a look around for you. I might actually have some of the codes that Scotch (GoldenHeart/MultiplayerX/The Shadow) hacked out. He sent me a few e-mails a while ago with stages like Depot, Jungle and Control. If I can find them, I'll send them your way. It shouldn't matter what is inside the level, so long as there isn't too much stuff. From my experience, the amount of props used in a stage holds no bearing on the framerate. Unless, of course, there is an absolutely insane number of things, which isn't even a possibility for a GameShark to make alone. Like I said, the Backzone of the Archives plays the same either empty or full of shelves and weapons. That being said, Scotch's codes will work just fine in the quest to see how the frames hold up for Depot via Emulation.
It's nice to be on the boards again, mang. |

I can play just fine with a N64 controller and full screen and better graphics. And I'm the one who always has problems. |
