I have a working 3.3 gameshark (LED light working and parallel port and everything) but my laptop doesnt have a parallel port, so i am trying to use a parallel to usb cable, but to no avail?

It won't work. It's designed for printers and does not fully support the standard. You need something more advanced, such as a laptop hub which includes a parallel port or a better convertor. |

hmm, so is it an issue of the gameshaek not being able to recgonize a USB cable, or the parallel port itself not being combatible with the USB cable, or the software not being able to recognize the USB cable, i guess thats what i am trying to understand. I guess if i know this answer, I can hope to find the answer. Laptop hubs, especially those with parallel ports, are quite expensive, and my laptop has no room for a parallel port expansion, so i guess i am looking at other options. |

You could always try your hand at coding a small upload utility. There's source for those kicking around, but the more advanced features (like codelist/BIOS updating) still haven't been worked out.
Still, the open-source stuff is good enough to do screen capture, setup upload, memory dumps, etc. _________________ (\_/) Beware

would another cable do the trick, such as a parallel to serial port perhaps? |

You need a full supporting parallel port thing. USB -> Parallel don't seem to ever do the job right. You need a hub or PCMCIA to parallel (expensive) or similar. |

ok, i just checked my labtop, no PCMCIA slots at all, HOWEVER i have a 54mm Express Card slot, now what if i purchased a parallel port port express card, its a 34mm express card slot that fits in and gives you a LPT port.
Now, i have a 54mm express card slot, but it says it can still work for either 54mm or 34mm. The parallel port is also the 26-pin three row connection kind, but 26-pin to 25-pin connecter pins exist. This will cost me about 50 bucks in all. I am willing to spend this if i know it will work.
What do you all think? (This is a lot to get for a freakin gameshark, if i could just get an adaptoid, i would lol) |
