hehe, I know, this ought to be old news for almost anyone, but I have just seen it today for the first time.
I had seen ep1 at the cinema, and was not very thrilled. The second one was a VHS rental, and I couldn't stand how bad it was so I didn't really watched in all it's lenght. I think I left it running while I went to many places and I'm not quite sure if I even watched the ending.
Anyway after watching the 3rd ep just about an hour ago, I think I finally can explain why I don't like these movies, and noticed it's the same crap that plagues most cinema produced today.
The basic idea is movies today (and so many other media) are emotion driven. But that doesn't explain it totally.
One might think that one of the objectives of a film maker is to make the viewer feel something, or at least not leave he/she indiferent.
I'm not specially fond of films trying to be too much emotive because I don't really feel the same as most people about many many things, but if it's well made it can fit my taste.
The problem is that nowadays emotivenes is cheap and pretentious everywhere.
The good way would be to convey meanings and portray situations that may suscite the empathy of the viewer and so emotions may come out (although today's people empathy is quite sickening, but I disgress), but instead of that, nowadays, for no justifiable reasons, with not enough preamble and even less credibility and taste, they just splatter emotions everywhere as the way to TELL THE VIEWER WHAT TO FEEL.
They want the viewer to feel rage? just show the protagonist outraged and there you go.
The saddest part is that it seems to work with people.
Sometimes I'm watching something crap like that and for a moment I let my guard down and I react and reflect some onscreen emotions like I described and I feel so disgusted that almost makes me want to puke.
EDIT: I forgot to say that the reason I finally watched it today was because they broadcasted it on TV and I didn't have to invest much effort or money into watching it, so the price seemed right . |
