It's hard to get a good idea of the whole layout in that video, but I do like how they opened up another hallway to connect the locker room to the opposite side. I wonder if there are any other GoldenEye inspired remake maps in Quantum of Solace?
Nice find, Fantsu. _________________

The map itself looks pretty cool, but I can't be the only one bothered by all the English. This is supposed to be a Soviet gasplant, the least they could've done was do the signs in Russian. They could have even gone Rare's route and used mostly gibberish (Bananas, potatoes, and "vadko," anyone?).
I've also got to agree with this comment on the video:
Quote: | this games multiplayer looks crap. you seem to spend your whole time running around looking for someone and then properly dieing in the end anyway so you have to repeat the process again and again |
I can't stand games like that. Bored out of your mind 90% of the time, then when you finally do find your enemy it's over in a second, not even a good firefight. |

Okay, watching the video again, these are the layout changes I noticed:
All of the doors are gone...except the bathroom stall doors.
The two lab areas near the locked door are connected to each other via an upper walkway.
The lab layouts are different, but seem to stick with the same theme.
As Wreck already pointed out, the locker room has been expanded and connects to the hallway on the other side.
The bathroom has a hole in the floor, and there's a second exit into a new area that used to be the hallway with the armor. There's also another lower floor that is never entered. |

Wait a minute isn't Quantom of Solace in third person view through out the game? Why is it in first person view? _________________ An Elevator from Earth; then to the Heavens...

Just the PS2-version is a third person shooter. The Wii, PS3 or Xbox 360 versions are in first person view. _________________ For England, James? |

I have Quantum of Solace for 360 and I have to say it is not half bad.
I have been playing it online quite a lot.
I have completed all missions up to Agent i have not tried 007 yet but it is a really good game not Another Goldeneye but it done good. _________________ "We have always found the Irish a bit odd, They refuse to be English" Winston Churchill

I had actually gotten Quantum of Solace for the Wii as a Birthday present last year. However, knowing the track record of Bond games post-GoldenEye, I decided to bring it back for a refund.
You'll have to let me know what you think of it, DB. I think I've heard that the missions are pretty short and simple, and it's more the multiplayer that is focused on. But if it doesn't seem too bad, I may be tempted to pick it up. _________________

Some Missions are a bit short but then the later levels are quite long.
I also like all the stuff you can do like hack locks and Hack computers to stop a huge virus this game has also a lot of little features that are quite fun.
Like shooting a fire extinguisher to get through a burning room etc. _________________ "We have always found the Irish a bit odd, They refuse to be English" Winston Churchill

My copy arrived, but I haven't had a chance to play it yet. I'll post my thoughts in this topic once I get a chance to. |

Okay, I played the game for a few hours last night and this morning, and have gotten to the casino royale chapter (mission) so far. Overall, I have to say I'm not that impressed with it. I haven't played any of EA's Bond games since TWINE, so I can't say how it compares to those.
The missions are very linear and offer no real chance to explore. Everything is very scripted, and the game doesn't try to hide this fact at all. The game controls great (I'm using the advanced sensitivity setting, anyone not experienced with Wii shooters will probably need to use a lower one for a while), you can use the Wii zapper with it but I don't have one, I'm just using the remote and nunchuck like I would for any other game. The biggest control issue is with the C button - you can press it to jump, and if you press it while against some objects you'll climb onto/over them. Unfortunately this is very random, sometimes you can't climb objects you think you should be able to (like a tiny box blocking your path), other times you can climb over things like fences that you normally can't. It wouldn't be a big deal, except for the fact that you need to do this in a few places to proceed.
You hold Z to aim, this actually locks onto the nearest enemy and keeps them centered in your view, while you can still move the remote around to aim/turn. When aiming you move your gun up to your eye and aim with the gun's actual sight, which is cool but can be annoying since so much of your vision is obscured.
The biggest draw has to be the third person aspect of the game. If you approach a wall/object and press A you'll take cover behind it. The camera switches to a third person view and you can spy on enemies, pop out using Z and shoot them, then take cover again. Your enemies will eventually get fed up and toss grenades if you hide for too long, and they'll take cover in the same way so it adds a whole aspect to the game that most FPS just don't have. This is easily the best part of the game, it combines the best aspects of two different styles of shooters, and it pulls it off really well most of the time.
Materials also behave somewhat realistically in this game, enemies can shoot through some objects like they're paper, so you need to make sure what you're hiding behind is strong. They can even do this with some walls, though I'm not sure if that's intentional or a bullet clipping glitch, I've had shots coming through concrete walls...it's not common, at least.
Unfortunately the game doesn't seem to have been fully optimized for playing on the Wii, and some areas slowed down really bad. This only happened in a few chapters, but it was bad when it did. It doesn't seem to be based on detail; some really detailed areas didn't slow down at all, while less detailed areas did.
Amusing things that didn't really fit anywhere else:
- Guards yell out various things to each other, which means you can listen in on their plans to ambush you and such. Additionally, sometimes a guard will shout that they're out of ammo, and they'll warn each other to take cover before throwing grenades.
- Shooting out security cameras makes the alarm go off...makes sense, I suppose. You need to cut the power to them instead, which seems just as unrealistic as shooting them out without anyone noticing.
- There is not a single door you can open manually. Either you need to let guards or an event open them for you, or open them by cracking a code in a simple "press a direction" minigame. Most doors are just decorations.
- The game has checkpoints after each objective, and your objectives are all things you need to do anyway, so you won't be repeating much if you die.
- Speaking of dying, your health actually regenerates in this game, it'll fill up pretty fast as long as you stay still and don't take any damage. If you take a lot of damage at once your screen blurs and you'll move a lot slower. The classic Bond gun barrel will start being drawn around the screen if you're close to death.
I haven't given multiplayer a try yet. |

I played one GC bond game and it was really boring and, like you said, too scripted and no chance to get out of it.
I bet it's based on scenes you have to role-play through like the game wants, as if you were an actor in a film. really annoying. The worst part is you don't have your script you you have to find, through trial and error, what in the world you are supposed to be doing and why what you are doing is not working just because the game script doesn't expect it that way... |
