The text tools don't just work for GE, but PD as well! Lets hope its kanji table is the same though ;*) If not, a new japanese PD table can be made. (read the readme for details)
In particular, you may want to use the size reducer on PD's text. Mission stuff tends to be duplicated, so in some cases you can reduce the size of a text binary by half.

Is this text tool still available? I have lost my old tool and would like to have it.
Kanji list is complete and PD Editor supports inject to Japanese ROM, I would like to try to edit Japanese texts.

Not sure I ever actually saw this post...in 2009? What exactly was this tool?

At the time, I was using the following topic

The tool was as shown in the following video.

It can output to a text file from the binary file and create a binary file from the text file.
The video shows an unsuccessful attempt to insert Japanese into the US version ROM.
I remember hearing that this tool supported Japanese.

Just found it archived. Didn't have a complete kanji table (though one should have been made by another user...), provided is a best-guess.

Archive contains the original zip with tools from 2009/2012 & source, what should be updated tables, and a sample python script for much the same to test something else because hahaha forgot the C tools existed. Maybe the last thing I wrote in C...

Sorry about the temp upload, that's its own story. Chances are someone else will be rewrite it all much better in a matter of a few days anyway ;*)

It does encode/decode GE's Japanese. Frankly, I have no idea if it supports PD. This is literally the only thing PD-related left in my entire archive, the rest must have been lost or something over time.

I've uploaded the 7z to the N64Vault discord so it doesn't get completely lost somewhere.

Kanji table of Perfect Dark was complete version. I will also review the kanji table of GoldenEye.

I could insert Japanese characters! Excellent!

1. Choose the original japanese ROM in Game Configuration
2. Save "06CF LoptionsJ" in File Management
3. Execute command: GEtoUTF8.exe LoptionsJ.lng -l"PDjapanese.txt"
4. Edit "LoptionsJ.txt" in the output file
5. Execute command: UTF8toBIN.exe LoptionsJ.txt -l"PDjapanese.txt"
6. Rename "LoptionsJ.bin" to "LoptionsJ.lng"
7. Inject "LoptionsJ.lng" to "06CF LoptionsJ" in Game Configuration
