I'm wondering if this is the same thing that has been troubling my brothers computer. Out of nowhere, this anti-virus program springs up and tells us that his PC is full of spyware and other nasty problems. It then prevents you from using your Internet Explorer, by indicating that it may be too risky. All sites (except those it chooses to open at random intervals - such as Viagra.com and Porno.org) are deemed possible threats, even including Google. It won't let you shut it down, since access to your Task Manager is blocked by claims that the app can't run due to an infection in the file. Right-clicking on the program icon on the bottom corner of the desktop only maximizes (or re-opens) it. In short, you can only shut down the computer and try again... hoping it went away. It's happened twice, thus far.

I can't remember the exact name, but it was something along the lines of: Anti-Virus Systems Pro (ASPro), by Magic something.

Edit: Yes, it turns out that "Antivirus System PRO" is a fake antivirus progam. Like I originally thought, it's just a way to scam people out of their money. They have tips online for how to remove it, if it affects you. It might be good to learn before anything happens, since your Explorer may not let you online once it takes hold.

Whenever I run into virus problems I run eset's free online scan/removal:

http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

That thing works great - it seems to find everything and its one of the few free online scans out there that not only finds stuff but deletes it too.

My computer reads the Setup Editor as virus but it's not, I'm pretty sure SubDrag is not stealing my personal information haha. Or could have everybody who downloaded the editors bank accounts Shocked haha. I also have Avast and I have not run into anything like that. You could have accidentally download something attached itself to all of those, though.

I don't have any virus protection on my computer, but as long as I simply run this ESET tool should I be good to go? I mean could I *NOT* install any antivirus program such as McAffee or Norton and still be safe as long as I run this program every now and then?

You all have bad Anti-Birus. AVG is best for me. My dad had Avast, said it was rubbish. We also had Norton, said it was rubbish. Mcafee slows down your computer ALOT and i put Avira on, and took my AVG on, then I was trojaned, and system restore got infected.

Basically, AVG pwns all your antivirus

Probably not a good idea. Anti-virus programs help to detect and stop harmful internet connections. Like a webpage might have a hidden downloader that could potentially download a trojan to your computer without you even being aware of it.

Just depends on how careful you are online. I've never ran an antivirus in the background in my life and I've had only 2 viruses that I can recall in the past 7 years. *knocks on wood*
