 |
|
I was just browsing through my Perfect Dark NTSC instruction manual and noticed something interesting. Though it doesn't appear to be mentioned anywhere in the game (at least that I could find), the full names of both the Sniper Rifle and Devastator are listed in the booklet...
CI 2010
Sniper rifle, 8-round magazine
Secondary Fire: Crouch while firing
A precision sniping instrument with legendary reliability, the Sniper Rifle sports an active zoom that outstrips any of its competitors by a number of degrees. It's used most often in a support role, covering the point man.
(CI: Carrington Institute, 2010: 20/10, Better than Normal Vision)
K12 Devastator
Grenade Launcher, 8-round clip
Secondary Fire: Stick grenades to surfaces
The K12 Devastator is another bulky, powerful weapon from dataDyne. Grenades can be set to explode on impact or after a set amount of time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There's also some slight changes to the way names appear...
Falcon2 vs. Falcon 2
Dy357 vs. DY357
CMP 150 vs. CMP150
Super Dragon vs. SuperDragon _________________

I remembered the sniper rifle having a name (I wonder if that was derived from the original FarSight name?), but not the Devastator. Pretty interesting, I wonder why they didn't use them in-game. The CMP150 is interesting too, since it looks a bit too much like CMPISO in-game; the space would probably have helped recognize it as a number easier.
I'm having trouble finding it, but I seem to remember a menu screenshot that showed a dataDyne Dy357 in the inventory, instead of DY357 Magnum like the final version uses. That string isn't in the beta text (LgunJ seems to be more up-to-date than most of the files).
Edit: Found it; the multiplayer page of Sub's old site:
It's datadyne dy357, though, so it's probably just a leftover from when text was in all lowercase. |

Hmm, I decided to add this info to the PD wiki, and came across this:
Quote: | The Sniper Rifle is a weapon that appears in Perfect Dark. Most likely based on the WA2000, it is obviously best suited to long range combat with its powerful zoom and pinpoint accuracy. |
WA2000, CI 2010...similar enough. I'm guessing that's where they got the name from. No idea why they didn't use it in the game, unless it's something they came up with at the very last minute. |

WA2000 just isn't anything like CI 2010, but may be referral.
CI 2010, CarringtonInstitute2010, it is old gun then in the game.
Was this game based in the future, in the year 2010?
