Warning: I go on for quite a bit so you don't have to read my post, it just felt kinda a good to say get this all out.

Hi. So I'm supposed to be working on a school project right now that is due tomorrow, but yet, I'm here. Basically, I would like to use the wonderful anonymity of the internet to discuss a problem with all of you. I think I have ADD or maybe I'm depressed, or bipolar. Basically, I find it hard to focus on doing one thing and finishing it. I don't know if it's ADD, laziness, or lack of interest. I'm 17 and ADD is usually diagnosed at an early age, or at least earlier than 17, I believe. But then I don't know. My grades are alright because I usually don't do my homework but ace all my tests easily. It's not all laziness though. I sit down to do the homework but I can't just get to it and get it done, so I feel almost a feeling of despair and self-hate because I take long past forever to do the assignment, so I stop. Sometimes I just skip this step and not even attempt the homework. I lack self motivation in pretty much everything I do. I almost always become bored and uninterested in activities that once interested me greatly, I think this could be from depression. I don't want to admit I'm depressed, but I'm generally not happy, though I do have somewhat good periods of time. If I am depressed it is definitely different than how it is usually pictured in media. I talked to my school counselor about the ADD thing so I'm trying to get some help. And I'm going to stop here because this is getting too long. Responses to my post are not necessary, it has served it's purpose by letting me clear my head.

I share some similar qualities, myself. Even in High School, I had almost no interest in doing my homework. In class stuff was fine and I usually ended up with high enough marks. But when it came down to doing stuff at home, I didn't care to. I think part of it was that the subject matter felt easy and not challenging enough. I mean, why waste time on something that you could do without much thought?

I don't know how many projects I've begun with a strong desire to finish, which only end up sitting on the shelf. Whether it be my interest level drops, or if it's because I'm not satisfied with my results, a few things are never released.

Boredom and depression, I can also relate to. I'm sure there are a few of us here on the board that share some of the same feelings. Internet message boards in general feature members who are lonely, depressed, unsocial or bored. It's really one big unhappy family. Razz

Personally, I don't identify myself as any of those things. I'm here because I genuinely enjoy doing this stuff more than any "normal" recreational activities.

ADD? ADHD? ADHD as in Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder?

The reason I do hardly anything for even Perfect Dark is because I'm not that addicted or interested in it enough to sit and make a whole lot of Combat Simulator levels or new solo missions. I don't even know how to do Goldeneye action blocks so I probably can't make solo levels for Perfect Dark either.

I have an Xbox 360 Elite which I enjoy more than my computer right now. I think I'm actually hooked to Halo 3 multiplayer over Xbox Live than I am playing Perfect Dark or Goldeneye. I'm not socially depressed like some of you and I think Perfect Dark and Goldeneye on Project 64 are a rather cheap alternative compared to playing awesome games on the Xbox 360. I actually think the same about playing on my computer in general. It is because I take the opportunity to play N64 games on my PC for granted 100%. N64 should be very easy for anyone by now because all they need is a USB converter for their controller and a good enough modern, crap computer. However, there are younger people who play it who can't do anything because they're still minors and don't have money to get an adapter because they're still only kids. I've all ready been through that.

But why would kids of this day play Goldeneye anyway? They were born after Goldeneye and they won't even do Perfect Dark because they've been spoiled by the newest systems for gaming. On Halo 3 there are a ton of little brats who annoy the living daylights out of mature, grown-up players. If it isn't the annoying "I pwned you talk" then it's randomly cussing players out and being dicks by submitting negative player reviews to someone's gamertag for no reason in order to intentionally lower their rep out of anger. I've gotten a load of this crap. I would rather do Halo 3 or Modern Warfare 2 at the moment than any Nintendo 64 emulation stuff. If I didn't have a dang 360 then I'd be doing that on my computer.

Camaro, I'm really sorry to hear that you've been feeling this way. I've been there myself, and even with all the experiences I've had, there's times when I still go back to that place where the future feels dim..

But you gotta always keep in mind that things will get better. Life's really not that hard, and even when I've been in the darkest parts of my mind (and trust me I've been there) the thought that tomorow is a new day has always kept me going..

You seem like a good kid, you'll do fine..

ps- do your homework so you won't have to end up in the military like me Smile

I can only think of 2 instances in my life where I was depressed, and lucky for me each time it only lasted for a few days to maybe a week. Its an awful feeling so I'm glad I seldom ever have it.

As for ADD, I suspect I very very very mildly have it - its not that I can't focus on anything (I can), its that I can't focus on any one thing for a long period of time. I can come right back to it hours later or the next day and re-focus, but I have to be doing something different every hour of the day it seems like. Except when I'm in a "zone" then I can work on something for hours on end. That's the only way I ever get any of my projects in here done.

I'm not quite sure what it is about goldeneye hacking that I find satisfying, considering that of every serious GE hacker here, I'm by far the least knowledgeable about James Bond (heck, believe it or not I haven't seen a single Bond movie, ever) . I've also never played Perfect Dark except maybe once or twice. But something early on drew me into the GE game and to this day I've never liked any other game quite like I like this one.
