 |
|
I believe that I may have found an easter egg in PD XBLA. However, I'm not too sure as of yet!
Incase you don't know, a QR code looks like this:
If this particular code was scanned on a mobile, it would open a weblink to these forums. I generated this QR code as an example.
In PD, the guards in the first level (dD Infiltration) have a QR code on their uniforms:
I have tried scanning the code, but it is too blurry to be recognised.
Hmmm... |

Very interesting, good eye.
Perhaps it's supposed to be an identification code for the dD employee? Like an ID card, but directly on their uniform? You'd probably need access to the raw texture, since the one in game would be too small and run through some kind of filter. Maybe you could write Rare and see if they say anything? Not that they're too helpful, but you never know. _________________

Good suggestion, Wreck.
Like a modern day form of Dog tags? That could definitely be a possibility! |

mmm, the intent could be for it to be one of these "dot codes", but it doesn't seem it would be a real one since it lacks alignment marks. Unless the black border in 2 of the sides (left and bottom in the picture) are the alignement marks. I think I have seen dot codes like that. Perhaps it IS readable after all. |

I can now offically confirm that this QR code is USELESS!
I recreated the QR code (by hand, I may add!) in Paint!:
Even with this clarity, the scanners come up with nothing!
Oh well! Thanks 4J for adding attention to detail! |

Man, that must've been a pain to recreate.
I suppose it's better that it goes nowhere, rather than bring you to a trans-gender webcam dating site. _________________

Lol!
Believe it or not, it didn't take too long - 15 mins or so.
In my opinion, this was a wasted use of an easter egg! If I worked at 4J, I would have put a link to a mock-up dD website, with info on the "guard" that you killed - you know, like those dD and CI websites where you can enter those passwords. |

That bot code is not QR, but DataMatrix (or Semacode which is based on DM anyway)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DataMatrix
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semacode
I'm not sure about the exact specifications of these codes
but there are 2 things that come to mind.
1. it seems that this code is 21 lines high and 22 colums wide, which I don't know if it's allowed.
2. DM codes seem to have a second line of alignement (similar to the "timing" lines of dots in QR codes) in the opposite sides to the black alignment lines. This code seems to lack that.
I guess it's a fake code after all, but it's still mysterious. if we had direct access to the textures of the game.... |

I noticed that yesterday when I made the code.
I guess that this will be a mystery - well, for now anyway! |
