i love goldeneye, i grew up with it in the 90's and liked perfect dark alot too, both great games but I just prefer goldeneye's weapons and maps over pd's...anyway my one buddy didn't grow up with a n64, and he loved timesplitters, he had em all for the ps2 and he told me that it was pretty good, I watched a few videos on youtube of timesplitters and I can see similarites between timesplitters and goldeneye, such as reloading animations, pace and movement , and positioning of the weapon on the screen, and the music from timesplitters from what I heared on youtube is awesome, and very similar to perfect dark and goldeneye...but anyway i was wondering what u guys on here thought about time splitters ? do u like it

TS2 is a great game, used to play it loads with some friends long ago though. It has some really funny and unique game modes like flag-tag and infection (not really sure if those names are 100% correct it's been a long time) in which you pass flame to other player and infection is basically survival battle. All in all multiplayer of TS2 with friends is such a blast. Game also has built in map editor which is really is cool thing.

I also have TS1 and played 3 with with friend who has it, 3 was okay but never really liked it as much when compared to 2. And I think TS1 isn't that all that good anymore when compared to 2 & 3. TS2 is really worth a try.

I have played the first two.
Didn't really care the cartoonish look and feel, but other than that they are fun games to play and the singleplayer challenges are fun to complete.

Some multiplayer levels have awesome design also.
The level builder didn't work that well, it needed much more "blocks" to build decent levels.

Some gamemodes like gladiator were fun.

Besides there great things I never liked the singleplayer story, time travel and such, also most of the weapons were quite lame.
The characters were annoying and controls (at least on XBOX) are sub-par comparing to GE and PD.

Too smooth, bad level design, not great guns. Alas none of TS lived even close to hype.

TS1 was multiplayer focused and was at the time it was released (maybe even today) the fastest shooter on a console. Seriously, the game is so fast-paced it rivals Doom, it's impressive really. The aim mode is lifted right out of GE/PD. You can probably get a copy for about $5 but it's really not worth it unless you've got a couple buddies to play it with.

TS2 has decent single player, with GE/PD-style non-linear objectives. I thought it was pretty fun, one of the better shooters that came out then. This one is the closest to GE in terms of gameplay and interface, you can tell the devs were still really happy with that gameplay style.

TS3 focuses on story, is pretty entertaining in that regard, but as a result the gameplay is entirely linear. Personally, I think they tried to conform to modern standards a bit too much and the game suffered for it. It also feels rushed, especially multiplayer.

Unfortunately, outside of the core controls and interface, the games come nowhere near GE in terms of things like guard actions. The games are a lot more simplistic. That was the most disappointing thing about them. Honestly though, I feel that way about all FPS games. Nothing has come anywhere close to GE/PD in that regard. I like plenty of newer games but their enemies, even "intelligent" ones, always remind me of Quake for some reason...

All of the games have excellent music, though most of TS3 was just remixes of the exact same track for each mission. TS3 had the epicness that is Scotland the Brave though, which makes up for that (and we later learned it's based on a scrapped PD track).

...continued after collecting some more thoughts. I don't really think of the TimeSplitters series as being the successors to GE/PD, not anymore at least. They take the gameplay as I mention, but they're more parodies/tributes to other games and movies. Especially TS3, given its story-based nature they worked in all kinds of nods to various things. There's only one mission in the entire series that is a definite tribute to GoldenEye:

TS2: 1990 Siberia

As if the fact that its a Soviet dam wasn't enough to rub it in, no other mission starts out with that GE-style intro text and camera, this video doesn't show the camera, but the text is there in the very beginning (hate when people don't show the intro cutscenes...). Atom Smasher is a Bond/Goldfinger parody, too.

1990 Siberia in the demo disc version of TS2 that I have - WAS GoldenEye. I was so excited. But somehow in the final version it didn't make it and got ruined Sad I'll have to capture a video some time.

That level brings so many memories, played all the levels through on hard (was it the hardest?), took many weeks. Man it was tough. Made all the "combat simulator" challenges feel easy. One challenge that I remember tough was a circus mission where you had to hold your grounds long enough against zombie attack. One of the last ones also. Later on those zombies were on fire. Overall TS2 wasnt bad game technically. I just hated the level layouts, weapons and characters.
Very Happy

It is, but somehow they changed it so much that it no longer was awesome, or GE-like. I'll capture a video sometime to show the difference.

Definitely TS2. One cool thing about the series is that they brought a lot of the good multiplayer maps and characters over to the next game, so TS1's better maps are in TS2.

I'd like to see a video, I remember your page but I can't access it right now. I didn't realize they changed that much. Siberia is probably my favorite mission, outside of maybe Wild West, so I'd definitely like to see the changes.
