Such a shame...
I thought that the Rare logo from the late '90's was the best one in my opinion. |

It seems that the logo was so hideous, that it even broke the .jpg format.
Anyways those who really want to see it, can google it. But I assure, it isn't worth the trouble. |

i could care less nowadays, because rare is a garbage company now, their glory days are long gone, the original rare team that made goldeneye and pd are pretty much gone anyway. _________________ call of duty is thrash, it takes no skill and is a noobs paradise...if you play modern warfare 2 your a complete moron. |

Well, around that era, after Goldeneye was released, Perfect Dark was put into production around 1998, and they said A LOT of team members left. Rare eventually split up in the early 2000's. I'm not sure why they even bothered with the new logo. No one even works for them anymore. _________________

The link is now broken but I don't care.
Anyways. I have always been a big fan of Rare, even before N64 (GE, PD, Conker, Banjo Kazooie, Blast Corps etc.).
Even before SNES (DonkeyKongCountry, Killer Instinct, BattleToads & DoubleDragon etc.).
Damn, even before their great NES games (Battletoads, RC ProAm, Cabal, Solar Jetman, Snake Rattle'nRoll, W&W series, Anticipation, Cobra Triangle, Slalom etc.)
My first Rare (or Rareware) memories relates to some great C64 games like Entombed and Outlaws. Then was the first time when I really started to notice WHO made the games and tried to find more games from the same company that I liked.
When I later heard that Nintendo bought part from Rare I had to buy NES. At that time no-one of my friends got console. Everyone played with their computers. Well I don't remember for sure if one had Sega Master System, but I think it was later on.
After N64 times Rare has gone downhill, but the guys behind the old games are still around. New Rare just isn't Rare anymore... |

Thanks for the logo, NapalNero. The one at the top is still broken to me.
And yes, it's quite cheap. Uninspired and boring. They probably intended a minimalist, modern look based on plain colors. I don't mind a design like that, but in this case it seems the designer was just lazy and didn't try.

Actually, I think the end of the N64 era was actually a turning point in console gaming. it all turned to worse. The gamecube was nowhere close to the N64. I didn't have a dreamcast, ps2 or xbox, but it looks like the tendency was general.
I think the end of the N64 era was the end of appealing games. games that made the imagination fly, that were filled with fun and awe. Games that, in spite of their limitations, of perhaps because of them, looked mysterious, and you could be amazed of each "little" improvement.
Really old school people say that good games died with the advent of 3D gaming because they lost the ultra high difficulty, but I say that the first generation of 3D game consoles offered a good deal of great games, that could never exist in a 2D console, and after that it went downhill...
So, it's not just Rare that got ruined, Nintendo was ruined too. Pretty much the whole videogame thing went downhill. |
