Quote: | An idea suddenly hit me. What if all of Goldeneye was re-written to many files to where there was an .exe file that allowed you to play Goldeneye with needing a ROM or emulator? It would be awesome, but difficult. Wait, since people created the geeditor from scratch, I think we can do this.
------------
Many files would be WADs with many lumps inside. For instance, there would be a weapon WAD that contained all info for weapons inside.

I have a better idea. Let's remake Goldeneye using one of the Doom engines. Sound better?

You underestimate how much work this would be. It would be great, but in order to have anything near authentic you'd need to disassemble the entire game and recode everything from scratch. |

We would start with a simple test level, like a Citadel of our own. Only create needed files to save time. |

I know about this vaguely. I wanna start a community project. I already see things that can be improved.
I'm going to use Sonic Robo Blast 2's Doom Legacy Engine for this. |

Yeah, GoldenEye Doom II is really a letdown. Part of the problem is that it's old - the engines have advanced a lot since then, and GED2 will even run on the vanilla Doom 2 engine. It would be possible to make much more authentic conversions of the levels nowadays, but why bother? GoldenEye needs true 3D, and any implementations of it in Doom engines are clunky to work with and limited. The best you're get are Eternity's linked portals, but it lacks the capabilities to do just about everything else you need for such a conversion. |

I was also thinking that we could remodel SRB2GE slightly different. |
