I downloaded the new mupen64 v0.7 from perfectdarkforever.com. Once it's downloaded, my anti-virus detected this thread (kailleraclient.dll).

Is it necessary to get a clean kailleraclient.dll file?

As a virus? Just ignore it.

We all have the same thing

The problem is this file (kailleraclient.dll) is considered as a thread by my anti-virus. But I know I need this file to be able to play GE or PD online.

I wonder why this is a "thread" despite it could be required?

Some computers recognize the GoldenEye Setup Editor as a virus, even though it's completely safe. I'm not sure why certain anti-virus programs think some clean files are threats, but the Kaillera Client file should be fine.

Antivirus solutions have 2 main ways of detecting malware.
one is by checking files against a database of KNOWN viruses, and the other is through heuristic algorithms.
These algorithms analyze the files they find and try to guess if they pose a threat. Heuristics are about probability, they are not perfect. They try to determine the probability some file/program has of being a virus, trojan, or whatevet other kind of malware. And if that probability is high enough according to the stablished metrics and thresholds (which are user configurable in good AV solutions), they raise a warning.

Software that involves pro-active network usage (such as the kaillera client for emulators), or that uses insecure input detection methods (as the ge editor possibly does), has a high probability looking suspicious to AV heuristics, as they could consider that they are trying to send or receive data covertly (without the user's consent) or that are capturing your input with spying purposes (such as catching passwords and stuff).
Well, I'm just guessing here, don't take this as a bible.

You can be confident downloading and using these despite what your AV says. Wink
