Emotional Video Games..
Or rather, Emotion in Video Games..
Today I was playing Fallout: New Vegas. I stumbled upon a military camp called Forlorn Hope, and as I searched it I began to find letters. Letters that had been written from soldiers to their siblings, lovers, parents, and their children, all were written to their loved ones in case they died in the line of duty.
Although it was only just a game, as I read their testimonials, many of them expressed the likelihood that those letters would one day need to be delivered... And it tugged at me..
Maybe I'm a sap, but I'm certain there even more powerfully written games out there, which do an even better job of emotionally investing their players.. Post some of your experiences here.. _________________ "Inspiration strikes but once.. If you're forgetful, carry a pen." -Me |

Sometimes video game music almost makes me cry, but after I listen to it after a while I get used to it. _________________ Also known as Spyster or Nyxem

Resident Evil remake on GameCube...
There's a part during Jill's game where she runs into Barry Burton, who earlier left her to die in an underground cave, and they have a confrontation. She ends up taking away his firearm, just before a horrible creature appears. You have the option of either giving him back his weapon, or not. On my first playthrough I kept the magnum in my possession, and it resulted in his death. As he died, he dropped a photograph onto the ground. When I picked it up, it was a picture with him and his two daughters. On the back, it said something along the lines of, "We love you daddy. Moira and Polly." I almost immediately quit the game, reloaded my last save, and gave him his weapon. Hell, I felt so bad that I still remember his daughters names...
Metal Gear Solid games are very powerful, be it both in musical presentation and voice acting. I've gotten chills at certain moments, and even had a tear at the end of MGS3. _________________

Like Spyster said: sometimes it's the music in the game.
The Chicago theme seems rather sad to me and some music in the Metroid Prime series get's me pumped up, Donkey Kong Country Returns' music seems to calm me down. |
