Ollllo here - this feature was a part of Goldeneye & it was
my favorite lure/tactic
Oldyz always thought that the vests where part of the old multiplayer levels - & they where independent from the weapon sets
(confirmed this past sunday)
no matter what you chose - slappers , golden gun, explosives , etc the Vests always appeared in the same spot.
Well using this project files:
http://www.mediafire.com/?cwjuef3f5m2umxu
(shields = vests in GEX)
you can see how its done & you can test their destructibleness:
Here are some locations of the Vests in the original Goldeneye:
Complex
(closeup & far away)
Facility
Temple
whether it should be done this way (like the original's)
or be done in the new way (as part of the weapon sets)
might be up for debate -
the original option - vests part of the level - demands that the slot formerly occupied by the shields be replaced with another weapon - i suggest laser watch
the weapon set option would demand that some hacking be done to make the shields destructible

Concidering how PD has an odd number of entries in each set, and since it is otherwise somewhat tricky to disable them (no BA is very popular), keeping them in the weapon sets is probably a good thing.
Incidentally, the NSNA patch for GE did make them part of the weapon sets. It is surprisingly easy to convert between objects. _________________ (\_/) Beware

olllo here:
made some changes to the .RAR package...
Now i'm conflicted -
1
I do love the shields, making the decision in the heat of battle based on the HOnor system -amongst humans - is fun for us here
if no shields is allowed, we just destroy them to the point they don't ree-spawn (old Goldeneye)
2
Perfect Dark/Goldeneye X allows up to 6 weapons at a time on the weapon sets - especially if you make your own custom sets -
so independent BodyArmor/shields come in handy if you want 6 weapons plus shields
3
BA would be even more fun if the BA appear randomly in many places throughout the VR/combat sim levels
4
GEX can always have a "Dr. NO toggle cheat option"
The Dr. No cheat was created to remove body armor placements in all stages through use of a toggle in the in-game cheat menu
http://goldeneye.wikia.com/wiki/Body_armor
to remove the BA's completely - leaving the weapon placements on the stages available exclusively for weapons & gadgets
- zoinkity
we'll have to try the NSNA patch for Goldeneye -
i'm guessing the Body Armor is still vulnerable in it? |

Adding a cheat into PD is a little different than GE. I certainly couldn't write it the same wy. _________________ (\_/) Beware

I like how the armour/shield works in both games, actually. In GE, you could weaken or even destroy the vest. In PD, you can swap it out with something else entirely. Unfortunately, it has to be one way or the other. I think the latter gives the players far more options.
It's also possible that the cheat could mess with your personal statistics in VR mode. Don't your stats refuse to update when you're using cheats? _________________

Well , that is what i wanted since 2003
by the way-
I forgot to add this note to the Package:
to make Goldeneye destructible Body Armor , you have to
1--
place the Body Armor/shield as part of the level
2 --
take a look at their preset numbers in the object editor:
3 --
modify the first 3 bytes data like this:

I don't think that is correct:
with BA as part of the levels (Goldeneye style) players still have the choice to add shields/BA -
The benefit of having "old school BA/shields" comes for people like me
and my cronies, when we play
Winner chooses next arena and and 2 weapons
Second place chooses the next scenario & 2 weapons
Third place picks another 2 weapons
Fourth place chooses the Soundtrack
So our weapons setup looks like this most of the time:
- here is the tragedy- we never chose shields/BA BECAUSE they where indestructible
Fortunately we have the Dr No precedent as a practical solution
Wreck wrote: | It's also possible that the cheat could mess with your personal statistics in VR mode. Don't your stats refuse to update when you're using cheats? |
Using normal cheats do block the statistics updates -
In case that happens something like this would have to be done:
(NO Body Armor for GE X)
the hack would have to be added to the combat options menu-
HOWEVER -
i tested the DR NO patch & gameshark code and this are the results:
activated the cheat option:
and this is what it does in single player mode:
and if you finish the level with the cheat on:
you can see for yourselves by using these save states:
http://www.mediafire.com/?b5pw2l6qhp84eab
http://www.mediafire.com/?wea9syrp4jit09a
the levels end normally -
So
it means that even tho the presence of the toggle is inside the cheat menu, it really does not register as a cheat to single player mode. -
So a similar Gameshark code or Patch should do the same thing -
Disappear all shields from the game when activated
- but not affect the stats-
So in the end the choice is the player's
they can have 6 weapons PLUS original Goldeneye BA/shields -
OR if they wish to be redundant:
5 plus more shields
Oldyz says that Body armors should be replaced with Oddjobb hats in the weapons menu |
