Was the text bank digit for the appropriate level? You're also missing, once a guard jogs/walks to preset, you need a loop checking if he arrived there.

Yes, I replaced some text from the level, exported it, then converted to ROM.

Do I need to replace, When in proximity of preset, return value loop, or do I need simply add a loop checking if the guard is at the preset like you said?

03
Check if guard stopped at preset or something like that
01XX

Make sure text bank is for right level, otherwise will crash

It worked, the game didn't crash, but the text that is displayed is the text I replaced, not the text I wrote.

Guess you didn't inject it into ROM then? If you use quick inject make sure the ROM it's based on is one with the text.

I tried replacing different text slots in the text editor, and injecting the ROM, but they still all display the original text by Rare. Confused

You maybe just doing a quick rom to test out the action there for music,text,clouds and sky will be from original rare.
Gotta do as Subdrag stated.Make your text.Whatever text number is assigned to that block must be changed.Then convert it and inject,and your good.

I tried changing the numbers in the little box right by the drop down where you select which level's text you want to edit in the text editor, but it wouldn't let me.

Whatever text that goes with that level. Find a quote from your level in Text editor.Like if in bunker 1,you would find Bond saying to talk him to main control room.Which would be Text number.........I don't know it by memory haha. But you find the text number change it to whatever you want. If it doesent show up during gameplay you might have assigned him the wrong text digits.

The text digits must match the level. This is a action for a guard to speak correct? So what number do you have set for him.

Ok im guessing its in Crypt.....Barons level. That text if so assigned to your action........should used only for that level Crypt. If not its not going to work.
