Looks like Martin Hollis will be giving a lecture about GoldenEye, from it's roots as a on-rails shooter to it's final release. Really want to go to this!

Yeah, seems like only snippets are available, and a lot of that is stuff he's mentioned previously (like the MP-in-a-month thing).

I can understand the emphasis on it though, especially in light of FRD dying at the hands of LucasArts the way it did, and all the nonsense leading up to it. There needs to be a balance between producers and developers, and when the balance is out of whack--either way--then it causes serious issues at every level of production.

Not only was it way over schedule, but it also wasn't the game UA/MGM wanted. In the end though it went on to sell well over a million carts, in a surprisingly consistant way, right to the end of the system's cycle.

It seems as though the video is up, although it is under "Members Only Content". Anyone here a member?

Great read! That part about increasing frigates - mt is crazy. Heh no wonder MCM survived. Seems worked till last second. Guess a couple weeks up to pal release they had a little time to clean up.

It's a shame we can't get the full lecture, it'll show up in its own time I suppose. It's really amazing that the project came together so well given the nature of its developemnt, as for last minute additions...working in the industry myself, they happen all the time - but they hardly ever work!

Found another article with a photo from the event.

What's interesting is that the still used at the lecture is actually from our very own Dragonsbrethren's "Office" level! Maybe they were talking about mods?!

Wow that is really, really interesting!! Perhaps he snuck it in to see if anyone there noticed. Or could it be when he was talking about throwing in the last second hack, so he had a picture of a GE hack up there? Hehe I can't believe he picked Soviet Office though hehe. I guess it looks like a real level so it's more subtle than for example the Kakariko hack.

Perhaps even more interesting, is that picture is *not* the one here:
http://goldeneyevault.com/viewfile.php?id=96

Did he play it?

I know! I thought it was a BETA pic of Archives at first, but then it sank in what it was!

I saw that too - it wasn't the same pic... From what I can recall, I have never seen DB post that pic, even in it's early stages of development. I'm sure he'll be chuffed to see his level featured in the lecture!

More pics from lecture!

Wow! One idea was the ability to play co op in Facility with Bond/Trev and with Natalya and Bond in later levels with 2 N64's linked up! Pics include BETA level listings, level blueprints, and gadget/people listings! Really want to see vid now! Very Happy

Wow! A beta firing range. If only we could get that for GE:X! Haha Hollis his original team -
1 programmer, 2 bg artists, 2 graphic manipulators. Wow hehe

Crazy how many Arecibo levels they planned. Heh also funny M, Q, and Jack Wade were planned from the beginning. Guess not needed.
