My 1tb WD is dying.. have to safe mode in the meantime.. tried some copy/paste and it's mega slow.. I just ordered a Seagate external with three year warranty and free two day shipping

Should I just power down until it arrives ? Then boot in safe mode and copy/paste all day ?

Merry Holidays

There's more efficient ways to do direct disk-to-disk copies. I've used Western Digital Data Lifeguard Tools in the past and they worked well enough. Likewise, any similiar partition copier would be much faster than OS copy/paste.

That said, you're still ultimately limitted by amount of ram, swap space, and hardware so 1TB is going to take hours.

I used Hiren's Boot CD.. it also has that WD tool you mentioned.. but it and most other things would just reboot or show gibberish.. not even mini XP would work just hangs

Can't boot normally or safe mode.. friend said the only chance of backing up the drive is if I looked up the DCM, ordered it again and hoped it was the chip board thingy that failed, to replace

Square one.. doh

EDIT: Eventually I'm gonna double ziplock wrap the drive and stick it in the freezer for an hour.. Embarassed desperate Embarassed
