The titel should explain. Those who know the pokémon series (the games, starting with red/blue, black/white2 is the most recent one) will probably already know this. But here's a trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i89yWoQFMc
This is generation six, already. And it will be very different from the games we've known. The old, familiar 2d look dissapeared for 3d style. Personnaly, I don't like this concept. It looks a bit like spin-offs like pokemon super rumble or something like that. Also, I see a lot of recycling from the pokedex pro application for 3ds. The starters look unispired, but fennekin, the fire starter, is pretty cute, but remains a newer vulpix. The water starter, froakie, has a funny name, but looks pretty ugly. I hate chespin, the grass starter, being a combination between a random grass type and buneary. Next, the name. the time of beauitful gemstones and minerals and things like that already dissapeared. red/blue is simple, but fits the style of those games perfectly. black/white aready made me thinkgame freak had lost its inspiration. When they put a 2 behind them, the lack of inspiration seemed even bigger. Fortunately, those games were good, black/white 2 turned out to be more than just a sequel. now, X and Y. Muh, gamefreak, were two unowns jealous and asked for more recognition? I don't think so, as the two mascot legendaries are designed to look like these letters, the X-legendary being a sawsbuck with dialga coat and the Y-legendary something like a failed clone of articuno. But that is too early to criticize. still, the name is ridiculous, it could 've been pokemon left/right, or pokemon up/down, for instance, those names say nothing as well. Why not pokemon amethyst/topaz, returning to the nice minerals?
you see, I'm pretty sceptical about the coming pokemon generation. But every other opinion, different than mine, is completely accepted, that's why this is a forum, no?
probably, this new generation wants to show nintendo is trying to develop its 3d powers, now infiltrating in the original pokemon series as well. and the courage they try it, is something to encourage. good luck, nintendo. |

I haven't played any Pokemon game since Gold/Silver so there's a lot that I don't know about how the games have evolved.
But it feels like Nintendo is rashing things a bit lately. I think Black and White were the second games of the main saga that were released for Nintendo DS, and that was very surprising. Until then Nintendo released 2+1 titles per system (Red/Blue+Yellow for GC, Gold/Silver+Crystal for GBC, Saphire/Ruby+Emerald for GBA and Diamond/Pearl+Platinum for NDS) plus the remakes. I though that was enough pokemon for each generation. XD
Last year they released Black/White 2 instead of a third game that could be lamely named Grey. And now they say a new generation will be ready this year.
At least it seems that Black and White meant a huge improvement to the saga, so no complains there.
The names, bleh, they have already took all the good ideas. A third game can be easily named Z, and probably have an aquatic legendary (I can really see the Z looking like a serpent or a Gyarados).
The new 3D perspective is cool, it really isn't very different than the previous 2D. The 3DS can have better graphics but pokemon was always just OK in that. Battles are different, of course, they look awesome and I hope the different attacks will look even better.
About the new starters. I like the fire and water types, and the grass type doesn't look like a grass type at all to me, hehe (it looks like a squirrel). The legendaries look very misterious, I like them.
Even though I like what I see, I think it's too early for a new pokemon. |

The big problem they've been running into is that they can't even manage to unlock everything within a single title before system advancement, etc. kicks in and they need a new iteration. At least this time both the wii and DS are being cycled out, so there's a clean break on both fronts.
It's inevitable the 3DS gets a new iteration of the games, but this does complicate matters. It doesn't support the GBA (no port!), so you're looking at really sketchy backward support this time. Instead, it will have to be devised with forward support, which occationally has caused complications.
They've been meaning to do a 3D pokémon game since gen 1/2. From the looks of it though it isn't free-range; there appears to still be gridmapped movement. I'm just happy the legendaries don't look like fighting foodons characters or something.
Heard there's a rumour of a new type as well. That would be swanky ;*) _________________ (\_/) Beware

Im surprised there so popular. They made Pokemon Stadium which acually had animations and movement of the pokemon real detailed but it never was that popular. I find that one to be my favorite cause its well animated. _________________ www.youtube.com/gamerrey23 |

Like I wrote before, I'm pretty sceptic about the coming series. But here are some nice things which make me a bit more excited:
the names of the mascot legendaries are already revealed:
Xerneas and Yveltal. Man, that sounds incredibly cool, like legendary aztec gods I always loved the mystic around historic creaures or majestic gods.
2nd, this pictures
http://leviathyn.com/games-2/news/2013/01/09/possible-pokemon-x-and-y-starter-evolutions/
(fake, but nice) look very cool, especially the weaker grass starter seems incredibly cool, like a grass-excadrill. Froakie evolution remains a bit odd.
My verdicts are way too early. As more news comes, I'll probably lose my sceptic feelings. The pictures on bulbapedia of Xerneas and Yveltal already make me think that I shouldn't criticize them anymore. Good job Ken Sugimori ! |
