Hello.

This question is in my head for a few weeks now - though, I start a topic about it

I know the game is the same and I know they fixed some glitches.
Which of the glitches are fixed? Can you list them all?

Thanks Wink

The most important difference from 1.0 to 1.1, and the reason you could get a free upgrade via Nintendo, was an overflow glitch that could occur if bots went into the vents in one of the MP stages, permanently corrupting your save file in a way that made the game unbootable. Not even sure if you could get deep enough into the menus to wipe the corrupted saves.

If I remember correctly, playing Challenge 7 (King of the Hill Warehouse) 3-player causes a crash in 1.0. Last I played the game, I remember that being the only Challenge star I didn't have.

Actually something is weird then.
I have my PAL PD cart with corrupted saves - but I finished challenge 7 with 3P, without problems.
I never knew Sims entering vents would corrupt save, I always thought starting challenge 7 with 3P would corrupt save.

On my NTSC PD cart, saves are ok, but tbh, I'm a bit afraid of starting Warehouse to test it - can I also do on emu?

Luckily the game works with controller pak - might copy the NTSC over to there incase it gets corrupted.

Can you see which version you have on the cart?

It was Warehouse. Couldn't remember the name ;*)

The issue was only found in NTSC v1.0. Other regions are unaffected. Any other crash bug is trivial compared to this one.
The overflow caused overwrote the onboard save with random data. Even if you never set up an eeprom save it would still overwrite it, and as soon as the main menu reads the bugger it's all over.
It wasn't the only game that did this. There was a patch to the developer library after half a dozen titles experienced the same kind of problem. Each recieved a free v1.1 swap, and I'm pretty sure BigN even picked up the shipping charges.

You can't directly transfer saves between different regions. A controller pak can have saves from different regions however. The entries are encoded with the header ID ('NPDE\x01', for instance, for US PD v1.1), and this ID is different between regions for all retail carts. Eeprom is compatible between carts though.

Also, many emulators can't experience this--at least not the way console does. That's a totally different sack of potatoes though.

There is also Trent Easton not loading into the Crash Site ending cinematic when you select to view it from the cinema menu. They corrected it in v1.1, since I guess seeing Mr. Blonde talk to an invisible Trent wasn't quite what they had originally intended.

I experimented a weird bug in the PAL version.

The intro cinematic of the Air Force One level had some missing speech. It's was very funny because the part that was "muted" was when the president gets angry and shouts to Easton, moving his arms agressively and Trent replies "As you wish Sir...". There was no subtitles either, so I thought it was a joke where the player makes up the president words or some kind of censorship.

But to my surprise, in my brother's file game (the second one) the speech was complete. That didn't happen either in the third slot, but never tried the fourth. The bug was there even after copying my file to the controller pak and play from there.

I had to schoolmates that owned the game too and I remember one of them had the same issue.

Heh, I found a video. It's from an emulator but I think that doesn't matter since I experienced it just like that woth the original cartridge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8Qip18OOW8

Did Nintendo ever advertise that free 1.1 upgrade? I never heard anything about it. The only reason I have a 1.1 cart is that my 1.0 cart was stolen.

Nintendo never advertised a free 1.1 upgrade - and I actually don't know if a v1.1 exist in PAL. I have corrupted saves in my PAL cart, so corrupted saves happens in PAL aswell.

@Sogun, I thought the same when I was a child - I got the game since it came out, PAL version as I live in The Netherlands.

I ordered NTSC N64 with NTSC PD a few months ago, so yeah.
Just tested it, I have v1.0.

Also, I'm wondering about this glitch:

Karljobst replied with 'fake'.
Ofcourse this isn't. Is this also fixed in v1.1?

Not a glitch, actually--in the options you'll find a "language filter." Toggle that and it'll mute any lines that contain foul language. (In this case, "Damn it man, I said no and I mean no...") Toggling this only affects your file--that's why your brother's didn't have this "problem" and it stayed even after moving your save data.

I always found it pretty funny because it takes out the entire line, not just the bits with swearing, as you can see in the video you posted. (Need further proof? Skip to 5:03--the President's line, "What the hell was that?" has been muted, but you'll still see him move his arms as he speaks.) The filter is incredibly thorough, too--even gets rid of Joanna's "Oh my god!" at the start of Area 51: Infiltration.

@ PacmanPlush
Oh, you are right, I just checked. Embarassed
Heh, almost 13 years later this issue has been solved. I don't know why I didn't think of that back in the day. Thanks!

I noticed ages ago that Trent wasn't in my cinematic in Crash Site. Does this mean that I have 1.0?

Hehe I'd rather not erase my 10+ year old save Neutral (unless it only
Crashes console. In that case I will test when I get home) pretty crazy. Now I know.
