When you start War. You will notice that explosions go off. I counted 6 explosions. I know one of them is at the start near the hole(Duh) but I wonder were the others are.
Does anyone know were they are and what they do?

| It's been a while since I looked at the setup, but I believe they detonate the pillars from the Battle Shrine mission as well. |

It appears your correct. I ran out to one of the pillars and saw smoke.
makes sense since there is 5 pillars and one explosion to make the hole.
But what does it do? No point in blowing up the pillars in War.
