 |
|
Hello folks, first, please accept my apologies if this question was answered before or if I am posting in the wrong section, as this seems to have been made only for mapping/modeling purposes, but I couldn't find any other appropriate section to post this. Please move the topic to the right section if necessary.
Alright, so my question would be, could it be possible to combine several xdelta patches or IPS patches into only one patch and then patch a ROM with it? I've played around with the setup editor back when it was first released but I don't really know how it works, and it was quite a while ago. I've also noticed many levels have the raw files included in them, but I have no idea how to import them in the Setup Editor, I have to be honest, I haven't read much documentation about it either.
I am asking this because there are a few people out there that has released a ton of levels sometime following a storyline (E.g.: The TAKA levels or the ones created by Rey or SilverEye) but only released every level separately, and I don't want to reset my N64 every time I've completed a level to switch ROM, it would make things much simpler.
Thanks in advance for the information! |

Perhaps I'm incorrect or behind on the latest updates regarding the Goldeneye Setup Editor, but wouldn't the only possible way to do this be: Apply XDELTA patch to ROM, then apply the next XDELTA patch to THAT ROM, and so on so forth repeat the process (the 'clean' ROM you have to choose from the dialog window being your newly modified one.) albeit I have not tested this and am not sure if it will work properly. _________________

Unfortunately, this gives me the following error :
Unknown error patching, possibly input ROM CRC mismatch.
Thanks for your assistance nonetheless. Does anybody else have an alternative? |

No, it's not possible to apply multiple Xdelta patches because, as you've seen, the ROM's CRC needs to match. You could apply multiple IPS patches, but given every mission is going to shift files around in the ROM differently, I doubt you would have much success anyway.
Most missions should come with their setup and other required files. Use the 21990 editor in the Setup Editor to inject these into a ROM manually. If the patch doesn't come with the individual files, you can extract them from a patched ROM with the editor, too. Basically inject the files into different mission slots, update skies, mem allocations, update the text file for the main menu and you should be good to go. It's involved, but not difficult if you're familiar with the editor. |

I should be getting to learning more about it then! It will take a while but I believe it'll be worth it. Thanks for your support, I appreciate it! |

Hmm... Now the most helpful thing would be if somebody were to do checksum comparisons against modified files and traced data changes, generating a project from a compiled ROM.
(It fell by the wayside. Originally it was intended to port code to PAL) _________________ (\_/) Beware
